Manufacturer Description:
A long-fibre mixture of English characteristics. Despite a 40% Latakia content, it unfolds a subtly sweet, finely spicy character and an amazingly gentle taste. Here quality and price are in an optimal ratio. The No. 7 develops best in medium-sized pipe bowls and, thanks to its slow burn, offers a pleasantly cool smoke.
Characterisation:
The packaging of the No. 7 English Mixture is the company's typical small, tall tin. The tear-open foil lid has an additional plastic cover. Opened tobacco should be filled into an airtight container if you want to store it for longer time. The cut shows predominantly medium and green-brown, with some blackish brown fibers in between. The tobaccos are curly, long and narrow cut. Occasionally there are also coarser stripes. The scent is mildly sweet with a hint of multivitamin juice. The Latakia cannot be smelled. Since the tobacco is absolutely not damp, it can be plugged immediately.
Plugging:
Despite the long-fibre cut of the No. 7 English Mixture packs easily. If you don't choose the pipe too small, the rather dry consistency is an advantage here. The only thing you shouldn't plug too tightly and you should chop up the coarser fibers a little beforehand. A good filling is achieved when it is loose at the bottom and gently tightens towards the top.
Light up:
Here, too, the low humidity of the No. 7 English Mixture. Two flames are enough if you gently smooth the surface with the tamper in between.
Smoking properties:
The No. 7 English Mixture is - as promised by the manufacturer - surprisingly mild for an English tobacco. The Virginia in particular is soft and has a delicate natural sweetness. So the smoke is consistently pleasant and never overwhelming. From the beginning to the end of the filling, the smoking process is uncomplicated if you take care not to puff too hard on the pipe to tickle even more flavor out of the Latakia. If you give the tobacco the freedom to unfold, which is not difficult if you let yourself in for its softness, the pleasant roasted bread aromas appear. This occasionally plays into the fruity and show the really high-quality Virginia. The Latakia contributes a fine spice and a hint of incense, which is what the No. 7 English Mixture gives just the roundness that a mild English mixture needs. The slightly light and fine ash as well as the hardly occuring condensate make cleaning very easy.
Redolency:
The No. 7 English Mixture is a mild English tobacco, but non-smoking company should be considered.
Conclusion:
The No. 7 English Mixture corresponds to what the manufacturer states. The rather light cross-section and the lack of Latakia in the cold scent suggest a mild taste. And indeed, the No. 7 English Mixture is perfect for those who want to try an English tobacco. The dominating soft Virginia harmonises with the delicately spicy Latakia. Since the aromas are carried by roasted bread-tinted fruit sweetness and the smoking process is quite simple, even beginners can enjoy an English tobacco without having to be afraid of being overwhelmed. The room note is also restrained compared to other Latakias, so that the tobacco could also find favor in the environment.
