Manufacturer Description:
A mixture of hand-picked top leaves material from Basma, Smyrma and Izmir, discreetly flowery with finest aromatic spices.
Characterisation:
The Orient is predominantly light- and medium-brown, but also shows grayish-green parts, also dark brown Ready Rubbed pieces appear to be present. The tobacco is cut rather fine and medium long, but also has leaf pieces and ribs. The scent is sweetish and reminds of dry figs.
Plugging:
The Orient may be stuffed even more firmly, since otherwise no right puffing would come up with smoking and then more often the tamper has to be used.
Light up:
Igniting the Orient is conceivably uncomplicated. A flame and possibly a gentle pressure with the tamper and the tobacco burns down quietly.
Smoking properties:
Oriental tobaccos are generally considered to be heavy, and even this Oriental is strong, but it smokes pleasantly cool and is not to be named heavy in the true sense. It does not overpower and can even be smoked pure. The aroma is tart, spicy and accompanied by a strong resinous note, but also has grassy and sweetish components. In the pipe remains powdery ash and little to no condensation.
Redolency:
The room note of the Orient is tobacco genuine and tart, so that this tobacco or Mixtures with it should not necessarily be smoked in non-smoking society.
Conclusion:
The Orient shows in its brown shades the different tobacco provencies contained in it. It is cut so loosely that it mixes and can be ignited well. The cool burning but strong tobacco shows all the aromas to be expected from an Oriental - it is tart, spicy, grassy, resinous and sweet at the same time. Pure Oriental tobacco is hardly to be found, Orientals are usually used as a seasoning and as such one should also use the Orient. Especially in English blends it is found together with Latakia; to find the right mixing ratio here is, however, a question of experience, preference and experimentation. However, the Orient also lends the necessary depth to a Virginia-based Mixture.
