Manufacturer Description:
Recalls the signing of the American Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
This gold- to medium-brown "Ready Rubbed" blend of selected sugar-rich and aromatic Virginia Grades with a pinch of tangible Latakia received as a grand finale a rather subtle yet striking flavor with a fruit-tinted component, which also determines the pleasant room fragrance. A characterful tobacco of perfect harmony, cool in the smoke and soft-spicy in the taste.
Characterisation:
The Independence packed in a round tin or also available in the economy pack is a medium brown Ready Rubbed, interspersed with lighter and darker parts. The pieces are long-fiber cut and rubbed out quite rough. The scent is very sweet and reminiscent of dried figs. The moisture content of the Ready Rubbed bits seems good, but you should let the Independence pre-dry for half an hour before plugging, which facilitates the burnup.
Plugging:
In a Ready Rubbed, such as the Independence, you should be careful not to plug too tight, but to give the compressed tobacco enough space to unfold. A little experience in dealing with this type of tobacco improves the smoking result, but can be achieved quickly with a little practice.
Light up:
The Independence is one of the Ready Rubbed tobaccos that rise under the flame and must therefore be tamed gently with the tamper. It may take two to three flames for the tobacco to develop a uniform glow by going out several times and for smoothing.
Smoking properties:
The smoke of the Independence is (as announced by the manufacturer) cool, but quite strong. Overall, despite the manageable number of basic tobaccos, the Independence shows a wide range of taste impressions. In particular, intense aromas such as smokiness and tobacco-spice are decisive for the base, plus a nutty nuance and a dark sweetness. Whether these originate from the tobaccos used or the somewhat mysteriously circumscribed aroma is not easy to say - the taste is consistently pleasant, round and remains until almost the end of the filling. In between, you should bring the embers closer to the tobacco with the tamper, as the "bitchy" Ready Rubbed burns off so much better. However, it does not take more, to leave behind only a few unburned crumbs and bright ash flakes after the pipe has been extinguished. Even the little condensate hardly does any work during the cleaning.
Redolency:
The redolency of the Independence is for tobacco, but mixed with the sweetish aroma, so that it should not attract attention in tolerant society.
Conclusion:
The Independence is a mid-brown Ready Rubbed that needs some experience, so it does not cause any problems with stuffing and lighting. Experienced smokers may also appreciate that the unspecified aroma does not whitewash the spicy basic tobaccos, but connects with them. The resulting round, strong taste gains in depth, without being incriminating. This makes smoking interesting and varied, making the Independence in fact suitable for more experienced smokers who want to engage in more intensive tobacco.
