Manufacturer Description:
This tobacco is a blend of the noblest varieties and is made with great care following an old Dutch recipe. Very subtly flavored with a hint of licorice and excellent burning properties. Amsterdamer has also been on the German market since mid-December 2015. Traditional Loose Cut Blend made from South American and African Virginia tobaccos and Kentucky from South America and the Far East. Wonderful pleasure for pipe smokers who appreciate a strong character.
Characterisation:
The Hollandische Rooktabak (which means dutch smoking tobacco) is easy to be taken on the way by its packaging in a pouch. The curly tobacco is predominantly medium brown with some lighter proportions and longer and medium-wide cut. In the cold scent is hardly the used aroma of licorice to smell, rather you feel reminded of the typical dried fruit scent of Virginia tobaccos. Since the Hollandische Rooktabak is neither too dry nor too wet, you can easily plug it immediately.
Plugging:
In principle, the Hollandische Rooktabak like any Loose Cut can be plugged loosely at the bottom and tightly above, but you should be careful not to press the filling too tight, because the curled cut requires some space to unfold and otherwise creates a bad puffing.
Light up:
Even in lighting, it turns out that the curled cut demands some attention. So it can ever require two or three flames and the repeated use of the tamper until an - then permanent - embers arise.
Smoking properties:
The luscious smoke of the Hollandische Rooktabak is intense and spicy, as you would expect from a tobacco with not too low proportions of Kentucky. However, the tobacco is not overly peppery, but shows by the used liquorice aroma a gentler side. These juicy, slightly salty, sweetish hints of licorice are just as intrusive and harmonize very well with the natural tobacco flavor. Until the last third of the filling you can enjoy this, then the spicy basic tobaccos appear more clearly, until after strikingly quiet burning only a little dark gray ash and hardly any condensate remain.
Redolency:
The redolence of the Hollandische Rooktabak is rather for tobacco and barely sweet, so that smokers need more tolerant society, if you do not want to attract attention.
Conclusion:
The medium-brown Hollandische Rooktabak with the scent for dried fruit needs due to its frizzy cut a little care in the preparation, which could be somewhat difficult for beginners. After that, however, the tobacco hardly requires more attention and knows how to convince through its straightforward flavor. So that this does not get too boring, the manufacturer has added an interesting aroma that harmonizes wonderfully with the strong tobaccos through its tasty, sweet-salty licorice and gives the Mixture the final touch. The Hollandische Rooktabak is less an aromatic, but a flavored tobacco whose ingredients are underlined by the aroma used in their particularities and so come to full advantage.
