Manufacturer Description:
A complex and rich Flake that has already been loosened (ready rubbed) and is therefore ready to smoke. The excellent mixture consists of sun-ripened dark Virginia, spicy Burley and is refined with a touch of smoky Kentucky and a pinch of luxurious Perique. The redolence is very pleasant and unobtrusive. The gentle and cool burning will inspire even sophisticated pipe smokers.
Characterisation:
The Auenland Broken Flake is a well worn Ready Rubbed, predominantly dark and medium brown in color. Some brighter parts are also present and the finely cut but longer pieces contain golden particles. The scent is pleasantly tart-sweet and reminiscent of spicy bread. Although the Auenland Broken Flake is compressed tobacco, it is elastic but not too moist so it can be plugged immediately.
Plugging:
The Auenland Broken Flake can be plugged as a loose Mixture despite its different sized components. If you start loosely down and end with gentle pressure, you will achieve a steady burning.
Light up:
Almost one is tempted to give up a second flame, because the Auenland Broken Flake makes the appearance that a single flame is sufficient. Nevertheless, it is advisable - as with any Ready Rubbed or Flake - to smoothen the surface once more gently with the tamper, in order to then give evenly fire again. This then guarantees an absolutely uncomplicated burning.
Smoking properties:
The Auenland Broken Flake is smoky and spicy, which is due to the used Kentucky, but it is not overly strong. This impression is also enhanced by the distinct roasted notes, which are pleasantly combined with the light, tart sweetness. The burn is, as it should be with a good Ready Rubbed, calm and deliberate and so requires little attention in smoking - you do not have to use the tamper in between, nor need to fear tongue burning or gargling. The Auenland Broken Flake leaves bright, flaky ashes, very few unburned crumbs and almost no condensate in the pipe, so that the cleaning is very simple.
Redolency:
The scent of the Auenland Broken Flake is consistently for tobacco, so it is not necessarily suitable for non-smoking society. For example, you can smoke it well in the fresh air without losing its taste.
Conclusion:
The Auenland Broken Flake is best described with the adjective "uncomplicated". This feature makes stuffing and lighting much easier compared to other Ready Rubbed Flakes, but this does not mean that the Broken Flake is boring. Although it can easily be smoked alongside, but its strong, but not stressful spice, the intense roasted notes and the tart-sweet background invite you to sit back and enjoy a no frills tobacco, which does not need much to convince lovers of natural Mixtures.
