Manufacturer Description:
An aromatic blend of handpicked Burley and first quality Virginia tobaccos. The original Italian Amaretto gives this pipe tobacco its special sweetness and unique almond flavor.
Characterisation:
Packed in a pouch, the No 3 is very easy to put into the pocket and take it with you. For longer storage, it is better to transfer the tobacco into an airtight container. The No 3 is evenly composed of medium and light brown Loose Cut, which also mixes a good proportion of dark brown fibers. The fragrance from the freshly opened pouch immediately reveals the flavor used; it is strong sweet-alcoholic and reminiscent of marzipan, which is also known from the almond liquor Amaretto. The No 3 does not have to be pre-dried, as its moisture content seems quite balanced when you loosen the tobacco, which is firmly pressed into the pouch.
Plugging:
As Loose Cut you can easily bring the No 3 in the usual way down loosely in the pipe and ending with gentle pressure. So the even burning then makes no problems.
Light up:
The No 3 is as easy to ignite as to plug. If you want to be sure, then after the first flame, gently use the tamper to smoothen the surface and create an uniform glow with the second flame, then the No 3 burns uncomplicated until the end of the filling.
Smoking properties:
The smoke of the No 3 is lush and pleasantly creamy in the mouth, it shows quite spicy, with hints of toasted bread and a slight tart nuttiness is to taste. But there is always the Amaretto aroma, with its notes of marzipan and melting sweetness for extra mildness and rounding. This aroma accompanies the course of the smoke until the last third of the filling, when the tobacco comes out a bit spicier. The remaining dark gray, coarse ash and the hardly existing condensate then make hardly work in the subsequent cleaning.
Redolency:
The scent of No 3 is characterized by sweet aroma, so that the tobacco in tolerant society probably should not attract attention.
Conclusion:
The No 3 is an easy-to-use Loose Cut, whose predominantly medium and light brown fibers already exude a clear Amaretto aroma of sweet marzipan. After the uncomplicated light up, it turns out that the tobacco was not as sweetly flavored as you might fear. The creamy-mild sweetness is always present, but not sugary, so that the basic tobaccos with their roasted notes and a tart nuttyness come out well. This balance makes the tobacco interesting not only for beginners, who will have little difficulty with the not too strong No 3. More experienced smokers will appreciate this unusually flavored but well-balanced tobacco, too.
