Manufacturer Description:
Golden Virginia tobaccos with a generous portion of Latakia, rounded off with flowery Oriental and a little soft Black Cavendish. Spicy and deep taste, smoky in character.
Characterisation:
The Heritage St. James Park is a dark and black-brown tobacco with lighter proportions, whose smoky fragrance is reminiscent of dark chocolate. The tobacco fibers are medium wide and cut rather short and have some firmer pieces of leaves. As can already be surmised by the wavy cover paper and the compact pressing, the tobacco turns out to be a bit sticky, so you should allow the Heritage St. James Park to air dry just over an hour before smoking.
Plugging:
Since the Heritage St. James Park contains some leaf-ribs and other "bulky" leaf parts, this should be noted when plugging. However, this requires only a little practice, since otherwise the tobacco, like any loose mixture, can be plugged by starting looser down and getting firmer towards the top.
Light up:
Due to the basic humidity of the tobacco, you need two or three flames for the Heritage St. James Park until you reach a constant glow. In between you should smooth the surface with the tamper and then strive to evenly spread the flame over the surface. Once the Heritage St. James Park burns evenly, the embers will hold until the end of the filling.
Smoking properties:
The Heritage St. James Park is absolutely worth the attention it demands when lighting. And it is also worthy to be smoked attentively, even if it does not cause any difficulties. The contained Latakia is rather spicy, than ethereal, although a light, cooling hint is quite palatable. In addition to the smoky spice hints of nut and toasted bread play an important role and even on an unobtrusive, fine sweetness you do not have to forgo. So the Heritage St. James Park invites you to sit back and enjoy the whole play of flavors, which features a harmoniously composed English mixture. Since only light, fine ashes and little condensate are left, the Heritage St. James Park makes little effort when it comes to cleaning.
Redolency:
Due to the contained oriental tobaccos, the redolence of the Heritage St. James Park is distinctly tart and therefore not necessarily non-smoker friendly.
Conclusion:
The predominantly dark brown Heritage St. James Park requires some experience in plugging and igniting of more unruly tobaccos, because of one or the other firmer leaf-piece and its rather moist consistency. But then the smoker expects a relaxing, but not uninspiring smoking pleasure, in the course of which you can find a variety of flavors. Latakia and Oriental clearly play the main role, but without being too weighty. Their spicy and smoky notes, which appear cool and light, are complemented by the typical bread flavors of Virginia, as well as nutty hints and a restrained sweetness that can probably be attributed to Cavendish. The Heritage St. James Park is thus a great example of a well-balanced blend of tobaccos, in which the tobaccos used harmonize beautifully with each other, without the lovers of strong English mixes would miss anything.
