Manufacturer Description:
“Extravagant” is the word which will characterise this mixture! Sillem’s revolutionised the traditional English art of blending. Main compound is spicy, smoki Latakia. With the add-on of highly aromatic Black Cavendish gets this composition more mellowy and reserved, a soupcon of Burley adds a smooth torrefied aroma, a dash of lemon coloured Virginia spots a sweety note. Full-bodiet, mellowy aromas of honey and fruit essences gives an especially taste. This tobaco will inspire you!
Characterisation:
Black tobaccos, some more roughly (Latakia?) and a few, different long and yellow Virginas, dominate this mixture. The flavour of fruit is predominant, but not importunately – Latakia is definately, but only lightly, remarkable. A medium, wild cut mixture with an interesting play of colours.
Plugging:
Sillem’s black is easy to plug. Either simply poured into the pipe and lightly compressed or twisted between the fingers to applicable bowls and then pluged bowl for bowl into the tobacco chamber. Some crumbels at the end will make it easier to light-up the tobacco.
Light up:
This mixture is easy to light up: One flame for the upper layer, light compressing of the swelling tobacco and bringing up the wanted glow with a second flame. Normally there is no need to light up again.
Smoking properties:
At the first glowing you can explicit recognize Latakia. An interesting fight between aromatic and English blend starts immediatly, at which the aromatic flavour wins at the end. A little bit of lemon sticks out noticeable. But at last the typical taste of Latakia is remarkable, too. Sillem’s black is glowing constant and slow. Due of that the temperature could be controlled very good – but if it is smoked reckless too hot, the interplay of aromatic and English blend is over at once! Otherwise the tobacco glows down to a little bit rough, grey ash. The mixture burns down nearly without condensate, tongue friendly up to the end.
Redolency:
Due to the flavouring this tobacco could be smoked in defiance of Latakia in most society. Smoki Latakia isn’t to deny, but just that fact makes this mixture very interesting. Not for any society, for example restaurants, but in a snuggery with friends Sillem’s black should be welcome.
Conclusion:
A good mixture, which attempts to combine different kinds of tobacco worlds. It shows interesting aspects for curious pipesmoker who like to experiment with exotic mixtures. Not for purists, but easy to handle and good smoking properties justify a recommendation. It is suited for beginners with Latakia up to friends of English mixtures, who can’t do without Latakia in society.
