Manufacturer Description:
Old Gowrie is an expressive, darker Virginia broken Flake of the old way. It is a nutty-noble tobacco with cool and salving smoking properties, which is endued with a subliminal sweetness and toasty aromas. The tobacco gets its harmony by a rest period, which combines its flavours.
Characterisation:
Medium to darker brown broken Flake with chunky, rather long streaks. The smell is typical for Virginia and the peculiar Perique, which is clearly noticeable. The tobacco feels mellow and in an optimal condition.
Plugging:
Due to the longer Flake pieces it’s recommended to twist portions of the tobacco between the fingers to fluffily bowls and plug them into the pipe without too much pressure. To make the light up easier, the last layer could be compressed a little bit more.
Light up:
By lighting up the tobacco it tends to straighten up. Therefore it’s necessary to pull down the tobacco slightly with the tamper, before two or three more flames will give a constant glow.
Smoking properties:
Due to the cut the Old Gowrie glows slow and cool. In doing so it’s pleasing the tongue and the taste is medium strong. Definitely both freshness of Virginia and spiciness of Perique are noticeable by the taste. A well-balanced, naturally mixture, which could be enjoyed without too much attention. The tobacco glows good-natured without noteworthy condensate and with a constant taste until the end. A coarse-grained, medium grey ash remains.
Redolency:
The redolence is typical for mixtures of this kind too: Characteristical flavour of Virginia, mixed with the spicy smell of Perique. The smoke isn’t too heavy, magnificent naturally and suitable for snugly societies.
Conclusion:
A well done all-days tobacco. Simple to handle, good-natured and glowing cool. The Old Gowrie could be smoked casually, for example by the work, while due to the well-balanced taste and smell it calls attention again and again. Constancy in taste and redolence recommend this tobacco both the passionate pipe smoker and the beginner, whereby the strength should be kept in mind. As an English tobacco the redolence is accordingly natural, what could constrain the acceptability in some societies.
