Manufacturer Description:
First-class Virginia grades and a Black Cavendish are the basis of this quality blend. The addition of matured Burley leaves and a touch of fine aromas round off the Mixture harmoniously and gives it a balanced, fine-sweet note.
Characterisation:
The Mahogany Mixture No. 80 comes in a very decorative box and is additionally packed in a golden cellophane bag. Since both can not be hermetically sealed, one should transfer the opened tobacco for longer storage in a tightly closed container. The tobacco is firmly pressed into the bag and shows, if it loosened up, especially a medium brown image in which only a few dark fibers mix. Striking are also some broader leaf flakes. The light scent is sweetish and reminds with slight bitter notes of chocolate and nuts. The moisture content of the Mahogany Mixture No. 80 is perfect to be plugged right out of the pack, so you do not have to pre-dry it.
Plugging:
The Mahogany Mixture No. 80 can be plugged as usual for loose mixes with some attention because of the larger leaf pieces. After a relaxed beginning, one gently gets tighter and ends with gentle pressure, which leads to a quiet burning.
Light up:
It is quite easy to ignite by gently smoothing the surface after the first flame with the tamper. If you give fire again evenly, the Mahogany Mixture No. 80 glows until the end of the filling.
Smoking properties:
The smoke of Mahogany Mixture No. 80 is first very mild and one should not be tempted to puff greedily on the pipe, because the tobacco can otherwise tingle a little on the tongue. Smoothly puffed, it develops quickly a soft, creamy aroma that does not whitewash the natural flavors of the tobacco, but spreads out. The Virginia sweetness blends in well with the honey-like components of the flavor, while in a slightly grassy-nutty flavor you may not quite decide whether this is due to the sparingly used Perique or the aroma, you will also find memories of dark chocolate. The tobacco glows quietly down and only to the last third of the filling the aroma disappears, the tobacco becomes a little smokey, until the pipe fades out and only dark gray ashes and a little condensate remain.
Redolency:
The Mahogany Mixture No. 80 is suitable for tolerant society, because the smoke is for tobacco but also shows clear hints of sweetish aroma.
Conclusion:
Although in the cut of the predominantly medium brown Mahogany Mixture No. 80 broader leaf flakes are seen, it can be easily be plugged and ignited. Thanks to this feature and the moderate strength, it is quite suitable for beginners. However, these should be careful to keep the pipe cool, so that they come to the full benefit of the creamy, sweet-nutty aroma that does not iron the basic tobaccos, as one might reproach some Danish tobaccos, but on the contrary emphasizes the peculiarities and shows supportive. So the Mahogany Mixture No. 80 is also for smokers who want to give a flavored tobacco a try.
