Manufacturer Description:
Perfectly balanced composition of golden-yellow Virginia, deep black Cavendish and nutty Burley. Uniform and soft burning due to the different cutting widths. Rounded off with the aroma of full-bodied red wine for a pleasant room fragrance.
Characterisation:
The Mixture of the No 21 Piemont Blend is composed of rather broad and partly flaky cut tobacco. Golden brown Virginia and medium brown Burley appear to be the main ingredient, while the Cavendish contributes a slightly lower proportion of dark brown fibers. The scent that rises from the opened tin may not be reminiscent of a freshly uncorked red wine, but it does remind you of related aromas, such as red fruits with a subtle acidity and perhaps a hint of vanilla. As with many flavored tobaccos, residual moisture is still present, so you should let the No 21 Piedmont Blend pre-dry for half an hour before plugging.
Plugging:
The cut is a bit wider, but can be easily brought into the pipe. If you proceed gently by becoming firmer in the usual way from bottom to top, the plugging does not cause any problems.
Light up:
The lighting is also easy. Once you have ignited the surface evenly, use the tamper again for smoothing and give fire again.
Smoking properties:
The No 21 Piedmont blend is very mild yet aromatic. The smoke conveys sweet aromas reminiscent of red berries with a subtle acidity in the background, which gives a fairly realistic impression of a rather heavy red wine. There is also a hint of sweetness and you also think you can taste the nutty Burley, albeit cautiously in the background. These aromas last until the last third of the filling, before the basic tobacco, especially the Virginia, but also the Burley emerge a little more spicy. As with most flavored tobacco, you should pay attention to your smoking behavior and not become too greedy, otherwise the No 21 Piedmont Blend can gargle a little. It may also be necessary to use the tamper or another flame in between, as the residual moisture affects the burning. The remaining medium gray ash and the condensate do not do an excessive amount of cleaning work.
Redolency:
The room note of the No 21 Piemont Blend is influenced by the aroma used. Since the smoke is sweet and vaguely reminiscent of vanilla, provided tolerance it should not be uncomfortable even for non-smokers.
Conclusion:
If you ignore the residual moisture that affects the burning, the light and medium brown No 21 Piedmont Blend can be easily prepared and also smoked. The fruity wine aromas are sweet in the smoke and are gently supported by the nutty Burley. The great mildness paired with the distinct aroma make the tobacco particularly suitable for beginners, even if the aroma may be a little too special for one to smoke it at any time. The No 21 Piedmont Blend is more of a tobacco that you treat yourself to on a special occasion, like the evening glass of red wine.
