Manufacturer Description:
Exquisite Virginias, processed using the Cavendish method and prepared as flakes, mixed by hand with loosely cut Syrian Latakia. Traditional English blend.
Characterisation:
The Private Blend No 20 is carefully packed. In the round tin it is wrapped in a paper rosette. If you lift the cardboard cover, the mixture is again packed in a cellophane bag underneath. The mixture is composed of medium brown and broad fibers and black-brown broad fibers. Occasionally small Ready Rubbed pieces are interspersed. The scent is sweet, alcoholic and reminiscent of plums, vaguely smoky Latakia can be smelled in the background. The tobacco is ideally conditioned to be plugged immediately.
Plugging:
Containing rather small Ready Rubbed pieces the Private Blend No 20 can be easily plugged. You just have to be careful not to fill the pipe too tightly. If you proceed as usual and bring the Private Blend No 20 into the pipe, becoming firmer towards the top, there are no problems.
Light up:
As with plugging, it doesn't take much for the Private Blend No 20 to create a good bed of embers. Once the surface is evenly lit, gently smoothing with the tamper and then using a second flame, the Private Blend No 20 will burn evenly.
Smoking properties:
The Private Blend No 20 is strong and spicy. As is not unusual for English blends, the Private Blend No 20 should not be smoked too vigorously, otherwise the contained Virginia can tingle a bit on the tongue. The harmonious aroma profile is also particularly suitable for sipping on the pipe with relish. The Virginias contribute toasted bread notes and a clear but natural dried fruit sweetness, while the Latakia rounds off the cozy smoke with hints of incense. If the tobacco is smoked carefully, hardly any condensate will remain in the pipe. So the cleaning of the fine, light-colored ash does not cause any trouble.
Redolency:
The room note is surprising for an English tobacco. Of course, you should be considerate of your surroundings, but in fact, in addition to the strong aroma of the Latakia, you can also smell sweetish notes that are actually reminiscent of the plums that were already perceived in the cold scent.
Conclusion:
Carefully packaged Private Blend No 20 is a dark English blend with some Ready Rubbed. The tobacco can be plugged and ignited with little effort. When smoking, however, you should be careful so that the tobacco does not become unpleasant on the tongue. Relaxed smoked the strong Private Blend No 20 shows Virginia-typical toasted bread and dried fruit notes, but the Latakia is not neglected either, but rounds off the overall impression with its ethereal incense aroma. The sweetish component in the room fragrance may also make the tobacco suitable for those who otherwise have to live without the strong aroma of Latakia out of consideration for their home environment.
