Manufacturer Description:
Elizabethan Mixture was originally an old Murray's and Sons blend, which Dunhill had re-created by the master blenders at Orlik, and re-introduced... at least to pipe smokers on the other side of the Atlantic. Like the original, Dunhill's Elizabethan combines pressed, darkened Virginias with a dose of Perique (all ribbon-cut) to create an easy-to-enjoy blend with a tangy character and a bit of pepper spice. And now, after several years of lamented absence, it's once again available here amongst the "rebel colonies".

Characterisation:
After opening the tin the Elizabethan Mixture shows up as a medium to dark brown, finely chopped mixture of different tobaccos with different cutting length. The tobacco gives off a slight scent of chocolate, some fresh hay and a hint of dark bread, what’s indicating the contained Perique. The Elizabethan Mixture is well conditioned, so you can stuff them without further preparation.

Plugging:
The Elizabethan Mixture could be stuffed easy. Either you can let loose portions trickle into the bowl and press gently down layer by layer or by slightly turning the tobacco in portions to loose balls, which you can then stuff into the bowl and slightly pressed down too. As the tobacco is relatively fine cut, you have to watch that you're not stuffing too tightly. At the end you should take a few loose crumbs, making it possible to evenly light the tobacco.

Light up:
The Elizabethan Mixture could easily be light up with one or two flames. It tends to straighten something. After gently pressing down with the tamper and re-lighting the tobacco glows evenly.

Smoking  properties:
The Elizabethan Mixture glows rather quickly and should be smoked slowly. If you draw too fast, the tobacco tends to overheat and the taste of what can be snappy. If the tobacco is smoked thoughtfully it develops a taste of tangy, fresh flavor of Virginia with a slightly chocolaty note of Perique. The average strength should not be underestimated and the Elizabethan Mixture should be often easily pushed down, to regulate the flow. Glowing down is even without much condensate if one pays attention to the temperature. The remaining ash is light gray.

Redolency:
The redolence of the Elizabethan Mixture is rather inconspicuous, by the Perique little stronger, but also a bit sweeter than pure Virginia. This tobacco is suitable for any occasion.

Conclusion:
The Elizabethan Mixture is a medium to dark brown mixture of different tobaccos with fine cut and different lengths. The smell of the tobacco is a mixture of dark chocolate, fresh hay and a hint of dark bread. The moisture is optimal. The Elizabethan Mixture is simple to stuff and to light up. While glowing down you have to make sure that you do not smoke it too hot. Smoked slowly it unfolds a sparkling, fresh taste with a chocolaty note. Due to the fine cut the tobacco glows down rather fast and it’s necessary to press down subsequently to regulate the flow. The tobacco doesn’t develop much condensate and at the end a residual light gray ash remains. The Elizabethan Mixture is suitable for more experienced smokers who like a good mix of medium strong Virginia with a dash of Perique and who can control the flavor development through attentive smoking.
