Manufacturer Description:
Sun-ripened "thoroughbred" - Virginia (20% sugar) with the typical sweet aroma, soft and quite gentle. Also "pure" a pleasure.
Characterisation:
The Virginia Zaire 1,6mm is light to medium brown and cut rather fine and medium-length, the tobacco is curly and reminiscent of cigarette tobacco. As with Virginia tobaccos, the scent is sweet and reminiscent of hay and straw. The consistency is quite dry and slightly crumbly.
Plugging:
The Virginia Zaire 1,6mm is a loose cut and yet more stubborn to stuff than its dryness suggests. Therefore, it tolerates the tobacco if it is stuffed somewhat more tightly.
Light up:
After two flames, and a tamping in between, the Virginia Zaire burns uniformly and easily down.
Smoking properties:
The Virginia Zaire 1,6mm shows despite the announcement of the manufacturer quite spicy and smoky notes. The aroma of the tobacco is dominated by a flowery but unobtrusive note and a delicate, floral sweetness. The smoke pattern - surprising for pure Virginia - is completely uncomplicated. There is no getting hot, no gargling or tongue burning, even with inattentive smoking, so that in the end, only pale ash and virtually no condensate are to be removed from the pipe.
Redolency:
The room note of the Virginia Zaire 1,6mm is tobacco genuine and should not be noticed in a society that tolerates smokers.
Conclusion:
The Virginia Zaire 1,6mm is a crisp Loose Cut in lighter shades of brown, reminiscent by hay smell, crinkled cut and consistency with good cigarette tobacco. The cut and consistency make it easier to mix with other tobaccos, for which the Virginia tobacco is well suited anyway. The taste is dominated by a surprisingly flowery sweetness, which makes this tobacco suitable for smoking pure, but can also be used as a base for Mixtures with stronger tobaccos, such as Kentucky. But also as a rounding off of Oriental and Latakia-Mixtures the Virginia Zaire 1,6mm proves to be a good choice. The Virginia Zaire 1,6mm is a perfect all-round tobacco and should not be missing in the selection of a passionate hobby-tobacco-mixer.
