Manufacturer Description:
This mixture reflects Rainer Barbi's preferences and demands for a gentle, balanced, aromatic, pleasantly scented pipe tobacco. Black Cavendish forms the basis, loosened up by the addition of light Virginia Ribbons and tasty pieces of flake. To round off the taste, this blend received a specially composed, attractive flavor with notes of chocolate and nuts.
Characterisation:
The Memorial Blend is packaged in a small can and sealed with an aluminum tear-off lid. There is still a plastic lid, but for longer storage you should transfer the tobacco to a more airtight container. This also applies to the economy pack. The Memorial Blend is a diverse mix made up of different cuts in a wide variety of colors. In addition to light brown cubes, short-cut dark, medium and light brown fibres, there is also a small proportion of medium brown Ready Rubbeds. The scent is slightly alcoholic and has a fine fruity sweetness reminiscent of rum raisins. The moisture content of the Memorial Blend is so well balanced that it can be easily plugged.
Plugging:
The different components of the Memorial Blend require a little attention. Especially the pressed tobaccos like the Ready Rubbed and the Cubes need some space to unfold. A larger pipe is a good idea. The Memorial Blend is then loosely poured into this and ends with only a little pressure.
Light up:
Thanks to the good moisture content, the Memorial Blend takes the flame well. If the surface has been ignited evenly, use the tamper to ensure a smooth surface. The second flame then creates an even glow.
Smoking properties:
Initially, the Memorial Blend clearly shows its aroma. The tobacco is sweet without being heavy or sticky. The Cavendish is at its best here. The hay notes of Virginia remain in the background, while one can probably attribute a natural-looking aroma of spiced plums to it. The flavor pairs dark cocoa with caramelized nuts, but fades towards the last third of the filling, making the basic tobaccos more spicy. You only have to re-firing once or twice at most, which is due to the different types of cut, but does not detract from the taste. In a large pipe and smoked comfortably, the tobacco does not burn down too quickly or hot. Then only a little medium gray ash and hardly any condensate remain - little work when cleaning.
Redolency:
The room note is genuine tobacco, but slightly perfumed by the aroma. It is therefore up to the non-smoking company whether they may feel disturbed by the Memorial Blend.
Conclusion:
The Memorial Blend in its unusual can is a mixture of all shades of brown and the various tobacco forms from Loose Cut to Ready Rubbed and Cubes. Plugged with a little experience, the tobacco can be easily ignited and smoked. The range of flavors ranges from natural fruity sweetness to baking cocoa to caramel and nuts. Neither the aroma nor the nicotine content is burdensome, so that lovers of aromatic mixtures will smoke this tobacco at any time of the day and every day. For other smokers, it provides a welcome change when they are in the mood for something sweet.
