The HH - Vintage Syrian is not new in any way. Actually the inspiration for the recipe origins back from the start of Mac Baren Tobacco, more than 120 years ago. This blend is typical for that time, and it is easy to describe as a “back to nature” tobacco. The taste of the HH – Vintage Syrian Latakia comes from the full and rich natural flavours of the tobacco.
The reason for calling this tobacco HH is quite simple. HH is the initials for the founder of Mac Baren Tobacco, Mr. Harald Halberg. If you look closely you will find the same initials in the Mac Baren logo, incorporated the shield hold by the lions.
The basic of the blend is a smooth and yet powerful Latakia from Syria. This tobacco gives the blend the overall “smoky” taste, a powerful taste and yet without any tongue bite. To add a spicy note to the blend, Turkish Oriental has been added. A mix of different Virginia tobaccos from 3 continents add a sweet natural taste. To complete the taste with depth and body, we added a little Dark Fired Kentucky from USA.
The HH- Vintage Syrian Latakia is a loose cut tobacco, which guarantees a smooth and steady burn. It does not get hot which means you will find extremely little bite on your tongue. When you empty your pipe after smoking, you will experience only fine grey ashes is left over, it has been a slow and dry smoke.
The HH Vintage Syrian shows light-, medium- and blackish brown tobacco fibers. Partial leaf fragments and ribs are recognizable, which gives the tobacco an archaic appearance. The smoky fragrance reveals instantly the used Latakia- and Oriental tobaccos. But a subtle sweetness is to sniff, which will be tasted in the smoke later. Since the tobacco was quite firmly pressed into the can, it looks very compact, but it is not something sticky or moist and therefore does not have to be ventilated.
The HH Vintage Syrian is usual packed as loose tobacco: fill loose down and gently fixed becoming upwards. The larger leaf pieces make it no problem.
Again, the larger pieces of leaves are not upsetting, because the HH Vintage Syrian takes the flame without any problems. It also needs to be hardly tampered again but glows evenly until the end.
The HH Vintage Syrian forms a voluminous, heavy smoke, but it is not as strong or powerful, but transported the nutty, slightly sweet of Oriental tobacco. As a contrast next to it, but harmoniously integrated tart Kentucky notes and the little ethereal incense of Latakia. As a result over the entire duration of smoking an interesting interplay between the spicy and sweet notes, which can wonderfully be followed. The quiet burning behavior also makes it easier to concentrate fully on it. The bright ash and the barely existing condensate make the final cleaning very relaxed.
The HH Vintage Syrian is a typical English tobacco and its content of oriental tobaccos can be clearly perceived in the room. It is therefore advisable to enjoy this tobacco in the open air or in the company of other lovers of English mixtures.
The HH Vintage Syrian is a very irregular cut Loose Cut. However, this is not a disadvantage - on the contrary, the tobacco makes no effort from the plugging on the light up to smoking. Less unspectacular is its taste, because the flavors skillfully blended vary between delicate sweetness, tart spice and typical Latakia incense notes. An interesting experience for lovers of English mixtures. The average strength and the uncomplicated way of HH Vintage Syrian make the tobacco but also suitable for the curious and beginners who want to venture "in the East", but they should be aware that the HH Vintage Syrian although not strong, but is strong in flavor and in the room note.
