Manufacturer Description:
Exquisite pipe tobacco in premium quality. This fruity blend of Black Cavendish from Africa and the Philippines, as well as Virginia tobaccos from Brazil, Argentina and India is refined with delicate cherry flavor and a hint of vanilla.
Characterisation:
Since the Ruby is packaged in a pouch, it is good for take away with you - if you want to store it for longer term, you should transfer the tobacco in an airtight container. The fine and short cut tobacco fibers are mainly light and dark brown with medium brown proportions. The freshly opened pack immediately reveals the used aroma - the scent is penetrating sweet and for cherries. Since the tobacco was pressed firmly, it seems very compact, so before the stuffing it can be loosen up a little and let it dry.
Plugging:
Since it is cut rather short, you can Ruby, as usual for loose mixtures, are simply stuffed, if you start loosely down and gently firmer to the top.
Light up:
Due to the expanding of the Ruby under the flame, one should smooth the surface with the tamper once or twice and give fire several times until a uniform ember bed is created, which then burns evenly until the end of the filling.
Smoking properties:
The first move delivers what the cold scent has already promised: the Ruby's smoke is lush and sweet. Above all, the aroma of the cherries is to taste, while the vanilla holds discreetly in the background. Even more noticeable is the cherry flavor when you expel the smoke through your nose. Despite the strong aromatisation, the genuine tobacco is not whitewashed. Although it does not play the main role, it certainly appears in the form of bread and nut aromas typical of good Virginia. As is the case with many flavored tobaccos, Ruby should not be smoked too eager, otherwise the tobacco may tingle on the tongue. After an uncomplicated smoke, the aroma disappears only at the end of the filling, shortly before only fine, medium gray ash and - for an aromatic - little condensate remain.
Redolency:
In the room the Ruby is very sweet and for cherries, so that a non-smoking society, which likes the supposedly "typical pipe smell", should not feel disturbed.
Conclusion:
The Ruby is a loose mix in different shades of brown. The aroma of cherries, which is clearly noticeable in the cold scent, is always present in the smoke. But the tobacco blenders manage the basic tobaccos to shimmer through with their bread and nut flavors. If you are looking for a sweet, aromatic tobacco that can be smoked casually, you will not be disappointed by the Ruby - neither a beginner nor an experienced smoker.
