Characterisation:
The Latakia - Spezial is predominantly black to black - brown with some dark brown. The tobacco is cut fine and short, with a rather dry consistency, which is also an advantage when mixing. The fragrance from the tin is smoky and sweet.
Plugging:
The Latakia - Spezial is plugged as usual with Loose Cuts, starting loosely down and stuffed upwards more firmly. This is how the Latakia - Spezial can easily be smoked.
Light up:
As unproblematic as the plugging, the lighting of the Latakia – Spezial is: a single flame is sufficient for the tobacco to form an even embers.
Smoking properties:
The Latakia - Spezial immediately provides a creamy and pleasant full smoke, but it is not strong. The full taste is more related to the mouth-feel and the opulence of the smoke. The softness of the Latakia tobaccos here is true; the tobacco, too, is smoky and has a certain spiciness, but the fresh incense notes cherished by lovers of English tobaccos are not to be missed. Also noteworthy is an appeal to bitter licorice, which is completely natural from the tobacco and makes smoking all the more interesting. After the unproblematic preparation and a pleasant smoking behaviour, the cleaning of a little light gray ash and almost no condensation makes little effort.
Redolency:
The Latakia - Spezial note in the room is strong as expected for this tobacco, so Mixtures with this tobacco should not be enjoyed in non - smoking society.
Conclusion:
The Latakia - Spezial is a medium to dark brown Loose Cut with unmistakably smoky and sweet scent. As uncomplicated as it is given into the pipe and ignited, it is smoked. The expected taste of a Latakia tobacco from soft and spicy to smoky and ethereal provides reliably in a wonderful lush smoke and adds a distinct trace of licorice. This makes the Latakia - Spezial interesting enough, to enjoy it also solo in the pipe. But this mixed it also convinces. The rather dry consistency of the tobacco makes it more easy for the hobby mixer, to mingle the Latakia - Spezial with other blending tobaccos, or to add it to finished Mixtures to spice them up. In a combination with Oriental and / or Virginia tobaccos you can not go wrong. Only the shares of the respective tobaccos are subject to the taste and the pleasure of experimenting of the smoker - these experiments and their tasting are always fun!
