Manufacturer Description:
The "Scottish Autumn" by Samuel Gawith equips every pipe lover for long walks through landscapes of autumnal golden leaves. A flake that sweetens cloudy days and promises no less than the two previous four-season tobaccos.

Samuel Gawith is a true connoisseur when it comes to using various Virginia's. So he hits the mark with this gentle tobacco and presents with the "Scottish Autumn" a blend that promises a unique enjoyment due to the natural maturity of long-pressed Virginia. Alone or in combination with other tobaccos, this blend of the premium manufactory is just wonderful!

Characterisation:
The Flakes show a light to medium brown marbling, which is here and there crossed by dark veins and golden speckles. The individual flake-slices are cut long and almost do not fit in the rectangular tin. Since the manufacturer dispenses with adhesive component, the Flakes are so brittle that they crumble when trying to remove them individually. The scent is very appetizing: sweetish, almost alcoholic and reminiscent of chocolate. Since the tobacco looks a bit damp, it can be allowed to dry slightly before smoking.

Plugging:
When removing from the tin, it is already noticeable that the Flakes can not be removed in one piece, so that the Scottish Autuumn can be bend and folded rather difficult be brought into the pipe initially. With a little practice that works better. It is very easy to rub the crumbly tobacco, to form loose balls or break it into pieces. The Scottish Autuumn invites you to experiment until you find the best personal shape. Unlike other flakes, the Scottish Autuumn also tolerates tighter stuffing as it barely rises and then develops a better puffing. Some crumbs at the top - as always with flake-tobaccos - facilitate the kindling.

Light up:
As with any flake, let the Scottish Autuumn extinguish after the first flame, squeeze the filling gently and smoothingly, and then give fire again evenly. This ensures a constant burning until the end.

Smoking  properties:
Immediately at the first puffing the lush smoke is to notice, which is creamy, but at the same time clearly spicy. Full-bodied, but not overly strong, the Flake shows the palate of strong Virginia: a spice reminiscent of tart herbs, toasted bread, but also a delicate dry fruit sweetness in the background. Noteworthy is the lack of peculiarities that are attributed to pure Virginia often. Gargling or tongue-burning does not need to be feared by anyone with the Scottish Autuumn. But from time to time, gently press the filling with the tamper to keep the puffing from becoming too light. Note this, so only fine, medium gray ash, few unburned crumbs and hardly any condensate is left to clean.

Redolency:
The Scottish Autuumn leaves a spicy tobacco note in the room, so you should actually follow the manufacturer and choose the Flake as a companion on autumn walks than for non-smoking companies.

Conclusion:
The Scottish Autuumn is a brown marbled, fluffy, company-typical flake, interspersed with dark veins and golden speckles. Its scent is appetizingly sweet, which, however, clearly retains in its taste. The prevailing aromas are tobacco-genuine and tart spicy, accompanied only by a delicate natural sweetness, which goes well with the not excessive, but noticeable strength of the tobacco. So the Scottish Autuumn is a tobacco that is suitable for not quite inexperienced smokers, who are looking for a pure Virginia flake, which offers powerful flavors without airs.
