Manufacturer Description:
Kelvin, a whirlwind artist and above all a nice fellow. Of course, I had to create a mixture to his taste. Kelvin is not a friend of extremes, so he prefers moderate aromatics. Tobaccos where the Casing is not the star, but all the components turn out to be teamplayers. The basis of this medium-strong mixture are various grades of Virginia, rounded off with some Darkfired Kentucky and Black Cavendish, which was provided with a subtle and interesting flavor. The character of the Virginias is preserved and ensures a great interplay between Casing and tobacco. A delicious treat for relaxed hours.
Characterisation:
The Kelvin's Silent Secret is a medium and dark brown mixture with brighter proportions, the many Ready Rubbed pieces are dark with bright inclusions. From the open tin immediately an intense, sweet smell of tea from red fruits rises. As with many aromatised mixtures and also because of the more moist Ready Rubbed due to the production, the tobacco can be allowed to be allowed to dry slightly before smoking, in order to facilitate lighting.
Plugging:
The high proportion of Ready Rubbed in the Kelvin's Silent Secret makes it advisable to carefully plug the tobacco since the pressed fibers tend to get up under the flame. Careful, thus not too tight "plugging" facilitates the lighting.
Light up:
The Kelvin's Silent Secret, by its tendency to rise under the flame, requires two to three flames, and a careful smoothing of the surface with the tamper, until an even ember has arisen.
Smoking properties:
After the somewhat more demanding preparations, one is rewarded with a lush and creamy smoke. One should not, however, be seduced by the mildness of the smoke, to pull too violently at the pipe, since the tobacco otherwise begins to tingle on the tongue. If the Kelvin's Silent Secret is smoked cool, then you can taste a flowery sweetness, which may be the attached flavor, but it seems quite natural. This aroma accompanies the smoking process up to the last third of the filling, then the actual tobacco aroma emerges even more. Here, too, the manufacturer has not promised too much, because the tobacco is nutty, with a distinct roasted bread aroma to taste and is not covered by the aroma used. The remaining ashes are medium gray and somewhat coarser, but, just like the condensate left behind, does very little work in cleaning.
Redolency:
The sweetish room note of the Kelvin Silent Secret acts for non-smokers like "typical pipe air" and is so likely to be accepted in tolerant society.
Conclusion:
The Kelvin's Silent Secret is an aromatically fruity fragrant, predominantly medium brown mixture with many darker Ready Rubbed portions, which require attention when preparing the pipe. Considering this, the smoker expects a creamy-lush sweetness that leaves enough room for tobacco to unfold its nutty toasted notes. The Kelvin's Silent Secret is therefore ideally suited for more experienced smokers who are looking for a slightly flavored tobacco or those who prefer natural tobaccos but want to "taste" in the sweet direction.
