For pipe artist Olaf I had to create a nice and strong English mixture, as he prefers more solid blends for his cosy smoking den. Olaf says I am spot on with this blend after classic fashion. In addition to a sweet Virginia basis, Olaf‘s Favourite English contains 50 percent Cyprian Latakia, Perique as well as a good bit of Smyrna Oriental, Darkfired Leaf and English Black Cavendish. A blend in the spirit of traditional tobacco making, its individual components matched delicately and with love.
Characterisation:
The Olaf's Favorite English is composed of nearly black, dark, medium and light brown parts. These fibers are rather wide and short cut and give a harmonious picture in the round tin with a screw lid. The scent is sweetish and smoky - a smoked ham flavor, which immediately reveals the Latakia and Oriental used. The moisture is ideal to be immediately stuffed.
Plugging:
In the case of Olaf's Favorite English one should only pay attention not to fill up to the upper edge of the pipe, since the wider cut fibers might otherwise rise under the flame heat and fall out. Otherwise, however, the tobacco is very easy to plug: at the bottom with gentle pressure and tighter towards the top.
Light up:
Givingthe flame evenly on the surface and gently smooth it with the tamper, it is enough to ignite the Olaf's Favorite English and get a glow that does not cause any problems until the end of the filling.
Smoking properties:
The Olaf's Favorite English is creamy in smoke, pleasantly full without being heavy. It has a certain strength, which is not stressed, if the tobacco is not necessarily the first pipe of the day and on an empty stomach. Also the flavors are more to arrange in the more powerful direction. Whoever hopes to find sweetness will be disappointed. Spicy tobacco is dominating, paired by smoky notes, as to be expected from Latakias. It is only in the background that we can easily glean ethereal incense peaks. since the Latakia and the Oriental used clearly belong to the spicy direction. Because of the strong aromas you should not smoke too greedy, also the Olaf's Favorite English tends to gargle, if you puff too violently at the pipe. If, on the other hand, the pipe is kept cool, a delicate rounding note of toasted bread and a trace of nuts can be tasted in addition to the pleasant spiciness. The burning is very quiet and reliable, only once in the middle you can use the tamper gently to lead the embers to the tobacco, then there are no problems and only a little medium gray, fine ash and little condensate is to clean.
Redolency:
As in the case of most latakia and oriental tobaccos, the room is clearly marked by Olaf's Favorite English and therefore it is not suitable for non-smoking society. The tobacco, however, is strong enough not to lose its aroma even in the fresh air.
Conclusion:
The Olaf's Favorite English is a typical English tobacco, which shows itself in the whole color palette between almost black and light brown in the tin. Already its fragrance betrays the Oriental tobaccos contained, and also in the smoke, the tobacco turns out to be a powerful representative of its genus. The Olaf's Favorite English is so full (though not overly) that it is more focused on more experienced smokers and also its flavors are powerful, so that you should not necessarily smoke on an empty stomach. The Latakia used is smoky-spicy and hardly ethereal, while with cool smoking gentle roasting and nutty notes are rounding off the taste. The Olaf's Favorite English is a powerful English tobacco is for lovers of the strong direction who know how to deal with it.
