Characterisation:
Since the Haymaker Flake has been stacked in the round tin as almost square slices. The flakes are medium and light brown marbled and interspersed with golden speckles and inclusions. The scent is strong sweet, juicy and reminiscent of dried fruit. The flakes are crumbly, as the manufacturer states, do not use any binding materials, since they are elastic enough at the same time, but they can be taken quite well in one piece from the tin. This also shows the good moisture content, which ensures that you can plug the Haymaker Flake without pre-drying.
Plugging:
As said by the manufacturer the Haymaker Flake can be easily ground to a Ready Rubbed Mixture in the desired personal fineness. Due to its elastic structure, it is also possible to bring the Flake into the pipe bent and folded or even rolled into loose little balls. Experiments of this kind are rewarded with slightly varying aromas.
Light up:
Since pressed tobaccos stand up under the heat of the flame, it is also necessary with the Haymaker Flake to extinguish the surface after the first flame, then gently smooth it with the tamper and ignite the prepared filling again very evenly.
Smoking properties:
The Haymaker Flake delivers in its flavors the whole range of a pure Virginia. In addition to a strong tobacco flavor also a distinctly smoky note is to taste. As is so often the case with Virginia, there are other nuances, if you take care to smoke quietly. In the cooler smoke then show up toasted bread flavors and a slight sweetness. Despite careful preparations, it may happen that you have to use the tamper in between or re-fire the Haymaker Flake. However, this does not affect the taste. You do not need to worry about tongue burning or garling, as they occur so often in pure Virginias. The remaining light, fine ash and some condensate are easy to remove.
Redolency:
The redolence of the Haymaker Flake is for tobacco and will not be unpleasant in a very tolerant society.
Conclusion:
The Haymaker Flake is a completely pure Virginia Flake. By the waiver of binders, the medium and light brown marbled Flakes can be rubbed out or bent and folded, depending on personal taste. This is dominated by lush tobacco flavor, while the quiet smoker also opens up softer roasted aromas and a fine sweetness. Although the Haymaker Flake is only medium strength and does not tend to the usual problems of a Virginia, such as gargling or tongue burn, yet you should not be completely inexperienced, since in between a reapeated lighting or plugging may be necessary to keep the tobacco burning. The aromatic and unadulterated smoking experience is worth the effort.
