Manufacturer Description:
A blend based on American tradition. Golden Virginia grades, best American Burley and some Black Cavendish. A subtle, fine aroma describes the natural sweetness of the sun-ripened tobacco. Pleasantly soft and cool in the smoke, with a fragrant room note. Recommended for medium to large pipes.
Characterisation:
The Sweet Georgia Brown is wrapped in a paper rosette in the round tin, the cover paper is a little wavy, but the tobacco underneath seems a bit dry. The Sweet Georgia Brown is evenly composed of dark brown, finely divided Ready Rubbed and medium and light brown fibers that are very broad and almost square cut, resulting in a very loose blend. The scent of the tobacco is reminiscent of sweet fruit tea or lightly spiced punch.
Plugging:
The manufacturer recommends the Sweet Georgia Brown not only because of the wide cut, especially for large pipe bowls. The tongue-friendliness and aroma development also gain as a result. The loose cut makes it easier to bring the tobacco into the pipe with only gentle pressure, so you can achieve a good burn.
Light up:
If you have carefully plugged the Sweet Georgia Brown, two flames are enough for a lasting glow. After the first flame, smooth the surface gently with the tamper before you achieve an even burn with the second.
Smoking properties:
Although the Sweet Georgia Brown is only moderately flavored, the tobacco shows this casing quite clearly. But this shouldn't deter you. The sweetness is by no means intrusive or even too strong. As stated by the manufacturer, a pipe with a large volume helps here as well as for a relaxed burn. The hay-like, sweet Virginias show up if comfortably puffed. The flavor accompanies this with a slightly caramel sweetness reminiscent of dark syrup or brown sugar. In the further course, when the aroma recedes and leaves more room for the other tobaccos, the light roasted and smoked notes of the Burley can be tasted. The smoke then becomes a bit more intense overall. So the Sweet Georgia Brown burns down without complications, leaving only a few unburned crumbs and medium gray ash.
Redolency:
The room note of the Sweet Georgia Brown shows the sweetness of the basic tobaccos, but also the sweet aroma. In a tolerant environment, tobacco may be met with goodwill.
Conclusion:
The Sweet Georgia Brown is a broad mix of different shades of brown best suited for large pipes. The aroma is more pronounced both cold and smoked than specified by the manufacturer, but helps to underline the sweet Virginias with notes of caramel and brown syrup. The Sweet Georgia Brown is uncomplicated when smoked relaxed. Neither the aromatization nor the strength of the tobacco overwhelms, although it strengthens towards the end of the filling and the Burley with toasted notes also comes into play. A little experience in handling tobacco blends doesn't hurt, but then the Sweet Georgia Brown is suitable for many occasions. Also because it does not pollute the room air excessively.
