Manufacturer Description:
Spicy fire-cured Virginia and a dash of Perique form the basis of this dark-pressed flake. Sliced in long stripes, the Janneman Flake offers a voluminous yet creamy smoking pleasure. A tribute to the "pater noster" of the PRF Forum, Janneman.
Characterisation:
The round tin with pressure lid can be closed with an additional plastic lid, so that it is well suited to store the tobacco for a longer time. In fact, the humidity of the Janneman Flake is perfect for stuffing it right away. The peculiarity of the Janneman Flake is that it involves several long flake-strips that are loosely wrapped together into the tin. The tobacco-strips are dark brown, with golden-yellow veins and inclusions. The scent is intense sweetish-fruity after dried fruit.
Plugging:
Estimating how much you have to tear down from the long flake-strip to get the needed amount for a pipe requires some practice, but it's not that difficult. The elasticity of the Janneman Flake makes it very easy to bring it bend and folded in the pipe. But you can also form it into a loose ball or grind it to a Ready Rubbed, as fine as you want it to be. It tolerates the Janneman Flake - unlike for flakes usually usual - quite a bit tighter to be stuffed, as this creates a better puffing.
Light up:
After the first flame, you smooth the surface of the extinguished embers with the tamper, before you give fire very evenly again. This achieves a quiet and even burning.
Smoking properties:
The Janneman Flake is mild and clearly sweet in the first puffs, then it develops a strong spice paired with toasted bread notes. The tobacco is full in the further course of smoking, but it is not heavy. The natural sweetness, which takes the tips of the tobacco and rounds off the entire smoking experience, is always present, albeit in the background. You should not smoke the Janneman Flake too greedily, otherwise the tobacco could tingle on the tongue. The remaining ash is medium gray and can be removed very easily, as well as the little condensate.
Redolency:
Due to the contained Perique, the room fragrance of the Janneman Flake is spicy and for natural tobacco, so that the tobacco is especially suitable for smoking societies.
Conclusion:
The Janneman Flake is an special tobacco, as it comes in an unusual form: the long strips of tobacco rolled up in the tin require some experience to gauge how much you really need for a pipe. But for smokers who have experience with Flakes, the further procedure is so simple that the Janneman Flake is quite suitable as an everyday tobacco. The dark brown, golden veined tobacco smokes, if you do not get too greedy, very uncomplicated and delivers a strong tobacco-spice paired with a natural sweetness, which together give such a harmonious picture that the Janneman Flake uncomplicated, but never boring.
