Manufacturer Description:
Daddy Gefftl is both a dotty and highly interesting mixture. Unflavored Black Cavendish, Dark Fired Kentucky and a pinch of Cypriot Latakia makes it a near black mixture. A fresh floral aroma provides a delicious contrast to the precious tobacco choice. This results in a one of a kind medium-bodied aromatic and spicy blend. A truly special blend, both adorable and exceptional, as its name.
Characterisation:
The Daddy Gefftl lies in rather coarsely cut tobacco fibers in the round tin. These are rather broad and short, sometimes almost crumbly, and dark to rusty brown in color. The scent is slightly floral, yet fresh, with hints of spices and oranges mixed with smoky Latakia. The aromas are natural, some almost bitter, as if mainly tart citrus peel and other essential oils were used. The moisture content is just right to get the Daddy Gefftl immediately into the pipe.
Plugging:
The short cut makes it easy to plug the Daddy Gefftl. If you start loosely at the bottom and getting gently firmer towards the top, you will achieve an even burn.
Light up:
The cut of the Daddy Gefftl also makes it easier to light up. The wide fibers take the flame well. Once gently smoothed with the tamper and re-ignited, the surface burns evenly.
Smoking properties:
The spicy-earthy, slightly nutty Dark Fired Kentucky provides the basis for the aroma of Daddy Gefftl. The sweet Black Cavendish tops it all off, while the Latakia adds a smoky, woody flavor to the blend. In fact, the absence of Virginia in the mix is not a bad thing. It probably also helps with the burning behaviour. The Daddy Gefftl smokes uncomplicatedly and also forgives if you puff the pipe too hard. There is no tongue bite. The smoke is rich and cool thanks to the Latakia. The aroma does not overpower the tobacco. It is vaguely reminiscent of marzipan, with hints of orange and geranium. Here, too, the topping does not appear artificial, but based on natural ingrediences. The strength is in the middle range, with the intensity increasing a bit towards the end. It rarely needs to be re-lit, and all that's left at the end is a little moisture and light gray ash.
Redolency:
The aromatization of the Daddy Gefftl contributes to a floral room scent that hardly reveals any Latakia, so it could also be tolerated by non-smoking company.
Conclusion:
The Daddy Gefftl is a dark blend that combines spicy Kentucky with sweet Cavendish and smoky Latakia. The latter contributes a pleasant coolness. The topping enriches the cool smoke with an interesting floral citrus note without covering the tobacco. The resulting freshness also makes the Daddy Gefftl suitable for the warmer months. Since the tobacco is not burdensome, you can smoke it all day long and even those who are not familiar with English tobaccos will enjoy this easy-to-smoke, lightly flavored blend.
