Manufacturer Description:
Jerry (Cherry) Saronno is a medium-strength Virginia ready rubbed flake with a seductively fruity cherry / amaretto flavor. The Filipino Virginias complement each other perfectly with the flavor and provide an aromatic, fruity enjoyment with a pleasant tobacco note. Aroma at it's best.
Characterisation:
As soon as you open the tin of Jerry Saronno you can smell the cherry aroma in which the fine bitter almond scent of the Amaretto is mixed. The tobacco itself cannot be smelled. The Ready Rubbed pieces are medium brown, interspersed with lighter fibers and mostly quite well rubbed. Since the tobacco is stored tightly in the tin and because of the production method contains residual moisture anyway, it does no harm to let the Jerry Saronno dry out a little before bringing it into the pipe.
Plugging:
The Jerry Saronno can be grated a little before plugging, but it doesn't really cause any problems if you choose a pipe that is not too small. For ready rubbed tobacco, the general rule is that they should not be plugged too tightly and need space to develop, and this also applies to the Jerry Saronno. Loose tobacco fibers added to the filling at the end facilitate the following kindling.
Light up:
As with the plugging, the Jerry Saronno also requires a little attention when lighting. If you take care to ignite the surface evenly, then gently smooth it with the tamper and use a second flame to create a good bed of embers.
Smoking properties:
Jerry Saronno combines a naturally sweet Virginia with a distinct aroma. The basic tobacco thus offers a good basis of hay-like and soft notes that combine with the fruity taste of sweet cherries and hints of almonds. The rounding off with the delicate bitterness of the amaretto ensures a harmonious overall picture, which is nevertheless not boring. The aroma lasts almost to the end of the filling and only gives way to the more aromatic basic tobacco shortly before it goes out. The Jerry Saronno smokes for a flavored tobacco in a very uncomplicated matter, calm, cool and without gargling, even if you smoke inattentively. So the Jerry Saronno hardly leaves any condensate and only a little medium-gray ash in the pipe.
Redolency:
The Jerry Saronno shows in the smoke a clear scent of cherries with a hint of amaretto, so that tolerant society can perceive the room note as a typical pleasant "pipe scent".
Conclusion:
Those with some experience with Ready Rubbed tobacco will get along well with the Jerry Saronno. If you loosen the predominantly medium-brown tobacco a little, it shows up in the pipe very easily. It's a little stronger than some flavored tobacco, but not overly strong. The aroma of sweet cherries and bittersweet amaretto is also intense, but leaves enough room for the basic tobacco to show natural spice and sweetness. You can relax the tobacco and smoke it without the negative effects that aromatics often complain about, but whether the very own aroma is suitable for every occasion should be decided by every smoker. Its sweetness and strength make it very suitable, for example, to be enjoyed as a "dessert tobacco" after a sumptuous meal.
