Manufacturer Description:
Golden, red and dark Virginias represent themselves alive, charming and playful – cross-cut – with a fine fruity leaf. Dark brown Cavendish and hazel Burley give this mixture depth and a sweetly nuance. The composition is crowned with a fine flavour of juicy lime and full-bodied maple combined with caramel. A brilliant tobacco, delicate, comprehensive and full with finesse.
Characterisation:
A lovely mixture with tobaccos from light to dark brown with different, medium cuts. Sillem’s Blue gives off an exotic smell: Lime and sweetly-tart, where caramel is extensive ousted. Fresh opened the mixture seems slightly dampish.
Plugging:
Plugging could be done with the smokers favoured method for mixtures. Not too compact, because the tobacco needs some place to expand. Some crumbles at the end will ease lighting up.
Light up:
Without any crumbles the tobacco is a little bit cross-grained. The thinner, long streaks will burn easier than the shorter, thicker parts. But after the first light up, dampening with the tamper and one to two more flames the tobacco will glow properly. It may be necessary to light up again after a few draws, because the mixture tends a little bit to swell.
Smoking properties:
After light up the tobacco lime and caramel will be only remarkable in the background. The sweetly-tart taste of maple is dominating. After a few draws, when the breathing rate is slower, the fruity-sourly taste of lime will be remarkable. Caramel is still rather unobtrusive and only from time to time noticeable on the tongue. The tobacco glows constant and uncomplicated. In spite of the slightly dampish humidity the mixture burns cool and with medium condensate to the end. The different flavours are thereby as well as a light nuttily smack noticeable. The smoking pleasure ends a little bit suddenly and a medium grey to dark ash remains.
Redolency:
Beside maple and lime now finally the flavour of caramel is noticeable, too. A discreet smell of tobacco combines with the aromatic flavours. A not to heavy, pleasant smell, which is rather unobtrusive.
Conclusion:
Sillem’s Blue is a well done, aromatic mixture with excellent sorts of tobacco and interesting flavours. Maple is always in the foreground and gives, together with pleasant, nuttily tobacco, a comfortable combination in both taste and redolence. The taste is more attended by lime, the redolence by caramel. Easy to handle and good burning properties without any tend to smoke too hot suggest this tobacco to newcomer as well as to enthusiasts of medium aromatic mixtures, even if the flavouring needs getting used to be enjoyed.
