Manufacturer Description:
Full-bodied, spicy Latakia- and Kentucky tobacco were combined with Black Cavendish and then pressed to a flake.
Characterisation:
From the opened tin rises a tarry scent, very delicate after figs, but clearly of damp earth. The same color has the tobacco also. The flakes, which are first wrapped neatly in paper, crumle while taking them out of the tin if you're not very careful, which is almost typical for this manufacturer, but not a fault in the production, but in the absence of adhesive additives. Nevertheless, it is quite damp and should dry an hour outside of the tin before smoking it.
Plugging:
Due to the strength of Latakia Flake you should select a pipe with rather small head, at least for the first try. Then, the flake can be filled in various ways. Through its crumbly consistency it is well suited to be rubbed and smoked as a mixture. However, you can also bend it with caution and bring it folded into the tobacco chamber loosely. As usual with flakes you should not plug too tightly because pressed tobacco rises slightly when lighting. Some tobacco crumbs are taking the flame easier.
Light up:
Predried the Latakia Flake is easily to ignite. After the first uniform lighting one smoothes the surface gently with the tamper, and then giving fire again. Uniformly ignited the Latakia Flake barely dissolves.
Smoking properties:
The combination of Latakia with Kentucky seems to be directed primarily at smokers who dare something, but the Latakia Flake is not so extreme. The smoke is full, but soft - a game between the smoky, autumnal spice of Kentucky and the fine Latakia. The flavor is earthy with no trace of sweetness. This as well as the not to be underestimated strength of tobacco recommends tobacco for not entirely inexperienced smokers. These should sip the pipe and so keep the tobacco just gently smoldering, otherwise threatening with a burning tongue and the smoke can certainly hit on the stomach. What remains is bright fine ash that hardly prepares effort in cleaning.
Redolency:
The room touch of Latakia Flake is tart and typical for an English tobacco, which often encounters incomprehension in society. Among lovers of this taste it will however make a positive impression. Due to its strong flavor that pairs well with fresh air, it is also well suited for walks.
Conclusion:
The Latakia Flake is a dark brown, crumbly flake, aromas of tar, damp earth and figs exudes. Predried, plugged not too tight and smoked gently in a small pipe, it offers a none sweet, full smoke with a strong Kentucky spice that blends pleasantly with the delicate Latakia. An unusually uncompromising tobacco, the more likely because of its strength is aimed also of experienced smokers but that should have necessarily tried as flake fan and as a lover of English tobaccos anyway.
