Manufacturer Description:
Sun-ripened Virginias, Black Cavendish, Burley and a little Oriental. The finest Irish single malt with the taste of barley dried in peat smoke and the nuance of long storage in sherry casks.
Characterisation:
The Emerald Isle is packed in a practical pouch. If you want to store the opened tobacco for a longer period of time, you should fill it into an airtight container. Brown and light Virginia fine cut mixes with short and wide flakes of these colors, complemented by dark brown Cavendish. The scent is natural and, despite the whiskey aroma, not very alcoholic, but rather dry. This woody, delicately sweet scent actually evokes associations with sherry wood casks. For a flavored tobacco, it is rather unusual that the Emerald Isle does not need to dry before plugging.
Plugging:
The Emerald Isle does contain different forms of tobacco, but because they are fairly uniform in size and have a good moisture content, the tobacco packs well into the pipe. At least if you don't proceed completely carelessly and plug only with gentle pressure.
Light up:
The Emerald Isle's good moisture content contributes to the flammability of the tobacco. If the surface is gently smoothed after the first flame and then evenly ignited again, nothing stands in the way of a comfortable smoke.
Smoking properties:
The Emerald Isle shows a mild aroma. The Cavendish mitigates what could have been a (too) strong alcohol flavor with its gentle sweetness. This harmonises with the whiskey flavor used, which contributes a hint of malt, fruit and nuts to the whole thing. Flavors familiar to Irish whiskey connoisseurs. The basic tobaccos are nevertheless always present in the foreground. The roasted notes of the Virginia harmonize just as well with the aroma as the slightly spicy Oriental. You should not smoke the Emerald Isle too impatiently, otherwise the tobacco can get hot and gargle. However, this is what most flavored tobaccos have in common. Smoked carefully, the Emerald Isle burns down calmly and shows stronger Oriental spices and the smoky-nutty Burley towards the end. The ash that remains and the relatively small amount of condensate mean little cleaning work.
Redolency:
The flavoring of the Emerald Isle is sweet in the room note. As a result, the tobacco - despite its Oriental content - can also be smoked in company without provoking a frown.
Conclusion:
The Emerald Isle is a mixture of Loose Cut, flaky tobaccos and Ready Rubbed in all shades of brown between light and dark. The scent is mild, like the later aroma. This is just as little burdening as the strength of the tobacco. Carefully plugged and smoked, the Emerald Isle delivers a gentle tobacco flavor between toast and nuts, which combines with the fine sweetness of a malty whiskey. The contained Oriental is not dominant and is therefore also suitable for smokers who simply want to try this tobacco out. Even non-smokers will not immediately flee from this Oriental mixture because of the pleasant room note.
