Manufacturer Description:
This pipe tobacco is a balanced blend of roasted and fully matured Virginia leaves with a wide cut. A powerful, yet well-balanced Mixture for a full smoking experience.
Characterisation:
Since the Original is packed in a high cardboard tube lined with aluminium inside, with a plastic and a tear-open lid, it may be advisable to pour the tobacco into an airtight container. The Mixture is uniformly light and medium brown colored, curly, long and different, as stated by the manufacturer, but rather finely cut. The scent is that of a pure Virginia and is reminiscent of hay and dried figs. Above all, since the Original acts a bit dry between the fingers, the decanting is particularly recommended.
Plugging:
Since the Original contains some firmer leaf ribs, caution should be exercised when plugging, which in this case does not mean that the tobacco can tolerate no pressure. On the contrary, it is good for the tobacco to be plugged a little firmer than usual, which is quickly noticed when you puff on the pipe. With a little practice, however, you can quickly find the right balance between too loose and too tight.
Light up:
As with the plugging, the Original will need some attention, when lighting. If, after the first flame, you gently use the tamper to smoothen the surface, you will get a steady glow with the second flame and the Original will glow until the end of the filling.
Smoking properties:
The Original is a pure Virginia. As a strong representative of this direction, it presents itself smoky and with tart spice. In addition to strong toasted notes are also a grassy flavor and light pepper to taste. The latter can be a bit uncomfortable if you smoke too intensely, but this is not only the case with the Original, but with many Virginias and can be well avoided by keeping the pipe cool. Apart from that, the Original smokes easily and leaves medium gray ash and hardly any condensate, which makes cleaning the pipe easy.
Redolency:
The smoke of the Original smells for tobacco and thus requires the tolerance of non-smoking society.
Conclusion:
The Original is a curly Mixture in the color for a Virginia expected between light and medium brown. It is not very strong, but since the preparation requires some attention, it is not aimed at the absolute beginner. The Original is strongly smoky, tart and spicy, with grassy and peppery notes, which can quickly become unpleasant on the tongue when carelessly smoking. And so the aromas are more likely to appeal to those who already have experience in dealing with pure Virginia and appreciate them - as the Original - especially for their peculiarities.
