Manufacturer Description:
Named after the time-honored maltry, in which today the Dan Tobacco prepares our tobacco mixtures for you. A superbe Mixture of the finest Virginia proveniences, fermented with the addition of Scotch Malt Whisky in the press and then stored for 12 weeks until full maturity. To deepen the taste, DTM adds a particularly full-bodied, soft Black Cavendish. THE MALTHOUSE offers you a gentle enjoyment with discreet classic spicy notes.
Characterisation:
The Malthouse Founder's Reserve is a medium brown Ready Rubbed with few light and dark parts. The rubbed bits are rather long cut and have a little dampness at the first opening of the tin, so that the tobacco should be allowed to dry some time before the plug. The scent is sweet after dried fruits, which can be owed to the whisky used, but can also be found in the perfume of good Virginia. In addition, there is a touch of cloves and anise, which promise a spicy smoke.
Plugging:
The Malthouse Founder's reserve rises under the flame, but should be stuffed a little more firmly, otherwise the puffing is not good. Finger tip feeling and practice are appropriate here - but with increasing experience with The Malthouse Founder's reserve, this comes easily.
Light up:
The Malthouse Founder's Reserve should be lighted up like a flake. Its tendency to rise under the flame makes it necessary to let the first incomplete embers go out, in order to smoothen the surface thoroughly again. If you now give fire again, the The Malthouse Founder's Reserve burns quite reliably.
Smoking properties:
The Malthouse Founder's Reserve is not a really flavored tobacco, because the smoke is lush and powerful, with a tart spice. If the tobacco is kept cool in the pipe, a roasted and malty sweetness can be ascribed to the whiskey flavor. Under no circumstances should one try to squeeze out the aroma by fierce smoking, since the tobacco can otherwise gargle. The whisky is not really noticeable in the smoke, the aroma serves only to support the natural, pleasantly smoky tobacco flavor. To clean, fine and light gray ash remains, and, if one has paid attention to its smoking behavior, little condensation.
Redolency:
The room note of the The Malthouse Founder's Reserve is tobacco genuine and does not remind you of an aromatic, which may make non-smokers feel disturbed.
Conclusion:
The Malthouse Founder's Reserve is a mostly medium-brown Ready Rubbed, which smells like dried fruits in the tin - a fragrance that is reminiscent of some whiskies. However, the whisky flavor does not stand out. This is also the case in smoke. The Malthouse Founder's Reserve is strong-smoky and shows a malty sweetness, which may or may not be due to an aroma, as these flavor fields are also covered by pure Virginia. Sweet-toothed persons as well as beginners (because of the demanding preparation), are not necessarily addressed by this tobacco. However, if you like tobacco, in which the aroma is used to underline the natural taste, the Malthouse Founder's Reserve will provide a good addition to your tobacco bar.
