The second blend of our limited series is the Cervantes, a medium-bodied Ready Rubbed blend. Plenty of Burleys and Virginias connect the Cervantes with Perique. Because it is two years old, it also has a homogeneous and harmonious taste, which, however, differs from the Rocinante. He comes along with some edges and corners, which he has to thank for the high percentage of Burley. In contrast to the Virginia, his nature is largely retained in the agent. The bouquet again features sweet, bready and earthy flavors that dance in a pleasant relationship to the fruitiness and pepperiness of the perique that is present throughout. The Cervantes is very much in the American tradition - a medium-bodied Burley blend that only reveals its complexity if you give it the time you take.
Characterisation:
The Gran Reserva Limitada 2 Años Cervantes is embedded in a round tin in a paper rosette. The tobaccos used are listed on the slightly wavy cover sheet. Underneath the fine, dark and medium brown marbled Ready Rubbed actually still shows residual moisture. In the scent the tobacco is appetizingly reminiscent of fruit bread with candied oranges. Before you give the Gran Reserva Limitada 2 Años Cervantes into the pipe, you should let the tobacco dry for a short time.
Plugging:
The Gran Reserva Limitada 2 Años Cervantes can be easily plugged into a pipe that is not too small. As usual with Ready Rubbed, care is taken not to give the tobacco too tight or too high in the pipe. This is made even easier by the fine cut.
Light up:
Slightly pre-dried, the Gran Reserva Limitada 2 Años Cervantes can be easily ignited. However, like most compressed tobaccos, it tends to stand up under the first flame. But if you push the fibers back with the tamper and gently create an even surface, the following flame will take it well.
Smoking properties:
The smoke of the Gran Reserva Limitada 2 Años Cervantes is immediately lush and full. The tobacco is little influenced by the naturally sweet Virginia and only shows light toasty notes that can be attributed to Burley. Above all, the spicy aromas of the Perique are to be tasted, which occasionally tend to be peppery. The Gran Reserva Limitada 2 Años Cervantes is presented here as a no-frills tobacco that combines intense aromas without being overwhelming. The smoking process is also relaxed and runs comfortably to the end without demanding much attention. The remaining medium gray ash and the small amount of condensate can be easily removed.
Redolency:
Since the Gran Reserva Limitada 2 Años Cervantes does not contain any aroma, the smell in the room is clearly natural, so you should be considerate of non-smoking company.
Conclusion:
The Gran Reserva Limitada 2 Años Cervantes is a dark-toned Ready Rubbed that hardly shows any of its fruity scent in the smoke. This is sumptuous and has a strong spiciness. Only a bit of natural sweetness and toast flavors soften the penetrating peppery spiciness, which is still not overpowering. The tobacco is so easy to prepare and smoke that it can also be recommended for beginners. Only these should be familiar with strong aromas. For anyone looking for a strong Virginia Perique blend, the straightforward Gran Reserva Limitada 2 Años Cervantes is a good companion for the later hours of the day, with a strong coffee or after a sumptuous meal.
