Manufacturer Description:
The Original Blend of 1848. Bright Virginia Leaf and rich Black Cavendish from the basis of this mixture which is mild but satisfying. The addition of a balanced proportion of Dubec Turkish and Louisiana Perique enhance the blend to a position of elegance and quality. No Latakia.
Characterisation:
The main component of this tobacco is yellow to brown, ready rubbed fractions, which are mixed with a few black and fine fractions. The name of the mixture is entitled, because of the different fractions results a colour from golden-yellow to black. The tobacco streaks are medium sized and medium in length with an optimal humidity. The smell tells about a small amount of Perique with a slightly smell of plum and a high amount of sweet Virginia. Some spice in the background complete the piquant smell.
Plugging:
The tobacco could be plugged well, whereby due to the different cut some attention is necessary to get a constant filling. Portions twisted between the fingers to fluffily bowls and particular plugged into the pipe with light pressure, should be a good method.
Light up:
The Black & Gold is easy to light up and doesn’t tend very much to straighten up. One to two flames and a slightly damping with the tamper are enough to get a constant glow.
Smoking properties:
This mixture is well balanced and shows good smoking properties. The tobacco glows constant and develops a continuously pleasing taste. The different sorts of tobacco are resulting in a combination, which will glow down with a little bit attention cool and tongue-friendly. Thereby isn’t any tobacco dominating, but they combine to a discreet spicy-sweet taste, which will definitely show the pure tobacco too. The mixture is light and therefore suitable for any occasion and for any kind of smoker. The tobacco glows down with less condensate and the remaining ash is medium grey with a few black particles.
Redolency:
The redolence is equivalent to the taste. Slightly spicy, a little bit sweetness and definitely tobacco smell. The single impressions combine after a few draws to a pleasing redolence, which is unobtrusive and suited to any society, where it is allowed to smoke.
Conclusion:
The Black & Gold is an interesting mixture of different tobaccos, which combined melt to a pleasing, light, both spicy and sweet taste. Light, but definitely with character and good smoking properties. The unobtrusive combination is recommended for enthusiasts of lightly sweet mixtures, which get their sweetness from the tobaccos and not from any flavours. This mixture is easy to handle. The redolence is pleasing and unobtrusive. Suited for beginners, but also as tobacco for any occasion.
