Manufacturer Description:
Matching the new summer novelty 'Hawaii' there is now a tobacco with an exotic, refreshing aroma: fruity, sun-ripened oranges with dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Various tobaccos and cutting widths from Black Cavendish, Virginia Ready Rubbed and Brown Cavendish with the finest Golden Virginia result in a mild and interesting mixture that ensures an even burn.
Characterisation:
If you open the No 10 Hawaii, flip back the paper rosette in the round tin and lift the cardboard cover, you will see a predominantly dark and black-brown mixture of rather finely cut tobaccos. This includes a smaller proportion of wider, lighter fibers and a very narrow Ready Rubbed. The fragrance is dominated by a delicate, sweet orange note with a hint of dried fruit, which probably comes from the basic tobacco. When freshly opened, the tobacco still shows some residual moisture, so that it can be left to dry for a short time before it is plugged.
Plugging:
Since the No 10 Hawaii contains Ready Rubbed, which can rise under the flame, it is best to choose a larger bowl. In these, the mixture is to be given loose rather than too tight and ending with gentle pressure.
Light up:
Lighting the No 10 Hawaii is easy. After gently smoothing the surface with the tamper, a second flame is enough to ignite the tobacco evenly.
Smoking properties:
The smoke of the No 10 Hawaii is pleasantly light, almost fresh, but creamy, with a fine, fruity sweetness that was already audible in the cold scent. In addition to orange, there is some chocolate and a hint of vanilla to taste. Only in the last third do the basic tobaccos emerge more clearly and enrich the aroma with a light pepperiness. From time to time it may be necessary to press down gently with the tamper or to light up again. This is due to the mixing with Ready Rubbed. A blend like this should not be smoked too vigorously lest it get too hot. Since the No 10 Hawaii leaves only some medium gray ash and hardly any condensate in the pipe, the tobacco does very little work when cleaning the pipe.
Redolency:
The smoke of the No 10 Hawaii is characterized by the orange aroma, which can also be appreciated by non-smokers.
Conclusion:
The No 10 Hawaii is a predominantly dark blend that should be plugged with a little care because of the included Ready Rubbed. Then the tobacco shows the orange notes promised in the cold scent, which are pleasantly creamy and fresh at the same time. If you take a little care when smoking, the No 10 Hawaii with its exclusive aroma is wonderful for nice summer days. The pleasant room note is even able to convince tolerant non-smokers.
