Manufacturer Description:
The pipe tobacco of the French corporations
Traditional Loose Cut Blend, made from African and Far Eastern Virginia and Kentucky tobaccos as well as Empire Darks from South America. Wonderful pleasure for pipe-smoking enthusiasts who appreciate a strong French character.
Scaferlati Caporal has also been on the German market since mid-December 2015. This tobacco has its roots in the French army, where it was the task of the corporals to distribute tobacco rations to the simple soldiers.

Characterisation:
The Caporal comes in a small pouch, which is slightly larger than a cigarette box and so fits in every pocket well. The small print on the pack reveals that the well-known tobacco company Mac Baren is hidden behind Scaferlati. The tobacco is cut into narrow, long fibers and is predominantly medium brown with few brighter parts. The scent is spicy and as usual for strong Kentucky tobacco with a distinct anise note. Since the tobacco is rather dry and the pouch can not be closed airtight, one should refill the contents into an airtight container, if one does not want to carry the Caporal always with him.

Plugging:
The Caporal is cut so long that, except for very large pipes, it is advisable to roll the long fibers into loose balls and bring them into the pipe with gentle pressure. Not to the uppermost rim, since the tobacco is rises under the flame and so trickles over it while burnig, which should be avoided.

Light up:
The Caporal quickly takes the flame by its dry and fine character. Against the inclination of the tobacco to rise one should use the tamper. The Caporal does not, however, make any further problems.

Smoking  properties:
The Caporal is clearly one of the stronger tobaccos; both as regards the nicotine content as well as the aromas. Not only does this cause the smoker to puff not too hard at the pipe. The tobacco can become quite snappy if the smoking is too greedy. When attentively handled, the Caporal is tangy and spicy, with sour notes in the background, reminding of oak and liquorice. These flavors, which are mainly due to the Kentucky, are a challenge for lovers, but this can be a challenge for all the rest, but this tobacco is not to be compared with the service in the French foreign legion... The Caporal is furthermore uncomplicated and burns relatively rapid down and leaves powdery, medium-gray ash and virtually no condensate.

Redolency:
The Caporal's room note is tart and for tobacco and will give little enthusiasm to non-smokers, which makes the tobacco particularly suitable for the fresh air.

Conclusion:
The Caporal is a tobacco, which searches its roots in the French military. Correspondingly rustic is its appearance and its smoke. The tobacco comes in a practical pouch and is cut fine and very long. In the pipe, the Caporal makes clear that it is attributed more to the stronger direction both in the nicotine and the taste. Smoked with the necessary attention, the tobacco delivers the expected strong aromas. Tart and spicy with sour undertones reminds the Caporal of oakwood and licorice: an experience for lovers of strong, not everyday, natural tobacco aromas and Kentucky wort. For beginners and more sensitive minds, however, the tobacco might be a little too strenuous. A tobacco you either like or not - it is a special experience.
