Characterisation:
The 4th Generation 1931 Erik Peter's Flake is wrapped square in cardboard, but this was packed in a normal round tin. There are two stacks of wide but thinly cut flakes in the wrapper. The discs are pale brown and golden yellow marbled and show very light speckles and a few dark brown inclusions. The scent is sweet and fruity, piercingly tangy, reminiscent of multivitamin juice. This is particularly typical for some classic tobaccos containing Perique. The flakes are crumbly, but contain enough residual moisture to make them easy to plug.
Plugging:
Flake fans can bring the 4th Generation 1931 Erik Peter's Flake into the pipe, bent and folded in the classic manner. Of course you can crush the tobacco into a ready rubbed, stack pieces or form balls. The pipe shouldn't be too small, as compressed tobacco should be given room to develop.
Light up:
The 4th Generation 1931 Erik Peter's Flake takes the first flame well. If you then smooth the prepared surface again with the tamper and light the fire again, you get a reliable bed of embers.
Smoking properties:
The 4th Generation 1931 Erik Peter's Flake is immediately powerful from the first puff. It shows the power you would expect from classic English blends. But there are no oriental tobaccos responsible for the grassy, earthy notes here. The Perique is the driving force. Sour aromas combine with smokiness and spice. The Virginia is more of a companion in the 4th Generation 1931 Erik Peter's Flake, adding a harmonizing touch. Peat and some toasted bread round off the tops. You should smoke carefully so as not to be surprised by the profound strength. Otherwise, however, the 4th Generation 1931 Erik Peter's Flake hardly requires any attention. It burns down evenly until only a little light ash and unburned crumbs remain to clean.
Redolency:
In the room, the Perique-content is clearly visible in the smoke. If you don't want to smoke the 4th Generation 1931 Erik Peter's Flake alone, you should make sure that no one feels disturbed.
Conclusion:
The 4th Generation 1931 Erik Peter's Flake is precisely cut, shows very light brown tones and the cold scent already reveals the Perique. This becomes even clearer in the smoke. Aromas of peat, earth and grass with tangy acidity can be found as well as toasted bread and Virginia spice. Completely inexperienced smokers could be overwhelmed by both the nicotine content and the power of this natural tobacco. In any case, you should not smoke the 4th Generation 1931 Erik Peter's Flake on an empty stomach, in the morning or too hastily. But for lovers of Louisiana Perique, this intense tobacco, which makes you think you can taste the Mississippi River Delta, is definitely recommended.
