Manufacturer Description:
To celebrate his 60th anniversary as a pipe maker, Former, a globally respected pipe artist from Denmark, asked DTM for a very special tobacco. This is how, entirely in accordance with Former's taste preferences, this aromatic composition of various selected sweet and subtly spicy Virginia tobaccos was created, which were carefully mixed with the addition of a sophisticated casing and stored to maturity under slight pressure. A subtle honey fruit note combines perfectly with the natural sweetness of Virginia tobacco. FORMER 60 – Approved by the Master himself.
Characterisation:
The 60 Jahre old has been carefully packaged several times. The rectangular tin is in a cellophane bag. If you open the tin, you will see that the tobacco is packed in a black plastic bag that has been closed with the seal of the city of Lauenburg. This bag is welded shut and can not be sealed airtight once opened. You should therefore transfer the tobacco to a more suitable container if you do not use it quickly. The Ready Rubbed is long cut, light, medium and dark brown. It exudes a pleasantly spicy fruit bread scent. It's not sticky, but to remove any trace of residual moisture, you should let the 60 Jahre dry briefly before you start stuffing it.
Plugging:
Since the 60 Jahre is a ready rubbed, you choose a pipe that is not too small anyway to give the tobacco room to develop. Under no circumstances should you plug the 60 Jahre too tightly. If the fibers are too long for your personal taste or if you want to make things easy for yourself, chop the tobacco up a little. Then you can start filling the pipe really loosely. Hardly any pressure at the end and loose crumbs that accept the flame well are all that is needed.
Light up:
Once it has been briefly pre-dried, the 60 Jahre can be easily ignited by lightly pressing the surface with the tamper after the first flame and then using the second flame to create an even glow.
Smoking properties:
The smoke of the 60 Jahre is actually somewhat reminiscent of the fruit bread associated with the cold scent. Toasted though. These roasted notes are very clear and harmonize with the aroma. Think of toast with a little honey spread on it. This creates the impression of a juicy fullness that gently caresses the palate. There is also a hint of Virginia spice mixed in. The natural tobacco aromas are balanced here with an unobtrusive aroma. The burning is as uncomplicated and pleasant as the taste. No tongue bite, no gargling - not a given for a pure and flavored Virginia! Towards the end the Virginia spice becomes a little more noticeable, but then the tobacco soon fades out. Only a few unburned crumbs and medium gray ash remain to clean.
Redolency:
The room note of the 60 Jahre is not intrusive, but - despite the aroma - rather natural, so you should be considerate of non-smoking company.
Conclusion:
The carefully packaged 60 Jahre is a coarse ready rubbed in all shades of brown. Some experience in preparing this type of tobacco is necessary, but then it is easy to smoke for beginners. Typical Virginia aromas of roasted bread and mild spice mixing with the honey casing without it being used too excessively. So anyone who is looking for a pure Virginia without the bitches that often come with it and is not averse to a light aroma will enjoy the 60 Jahre.
