Manufacturer Description:
A sweet and spicy blend based on ripe Virginia with a delicate honey casing that makes the natural sweetness of the Virginia appear even richer. Added to this is a fine, bitter oriental tobacco and a pinch of smoky Latakia, which never comes to the fore. A pleasantly gentle, spicy, sweet-toned enjoyment with cool smoke.
Characterisation:
The Pipe Tobacco No. 2 appears in the round tin embedded in the paper rosette as a short, fine Ready Rubbed. Neither in the cross-section nor in the cold scent do Oriental and Latakia reveal themselves. The well-cut fibers are medium and yellow brown and exude the pleasantly sweet scent of orange blossom honey. Since the tobacco has a balanced moisture content, it can be given into the pipe immediately after opening the tin.
Plugging:
Since the Pipe Tobacco No. 2 is a ready rubbed, you should treat the tobacco to a pipe that is not too small. Plugging should also allow space for the compressed fibers. Starting loosely at the bottom and ending with just light pressure at the top creates a good filling.
Light up:
Lighting the Pipe Tobacco No. 2 works easily. A quick press on the surface and another flame easily create good burning embers.
Smoking properties:
The Pipe Tobacco No. 2 initially shows a strong toasted bread note that can be attributed to Virginia. When you smoke comfortably, the Oriental emerges, with aromas that are reminiscent of leather and the scent of fresh earth. This is reminiscent of good cigars, without the Pipe Tobacco No. 2 would seem like a cigar. The Latakia also contributes to this. Its fresh, gentle incense aroma softens the spice. This causes the Pipe Tobacco No. 2 not beeing sweet, as one might expect from a honey-flavored tobacco, but it is very pleasant and full-bodied. It may be necessary to add fire again, but this will not affect the aroma. The fine, light ash that remains after an otherwise quiet burning, a few unburned crumbs and the small amount of condensate make little work in the subsequent cleaning.
Redolency:
The room note of the Pipe Tobacco No. 2 is not as intense as other English tobaccos. However, you should still be considerate of non-smoking people.
Conclusion:
The Pipe Tobacco No. 2 is a surprisingly light colored Ready Rubbed that doesn't betray its "English soul" even in the cold scent. When smoked, however, it reveals a spicy tobacco with notes of toasted bread and the dark aromas of the Oriental. Earthy and reminiscent of finely scented leather, this combines with the fresh, cool Latakia to create a balanced and at the same time exciting taste. The honey is added as a rounding off ingredient. This makes the Pipe Tobacco No. 2 suitable also for those smokers who don't think they can do much with flavored tobaccos, as well as for those who want to try an English tobacco, but shy away from the supposed severity of oriental tobaccos. The Pipe Tobacco No. 2 is particularly tasty later in the day and can also be enjoyed comfortably after a meal.
