Manufacturer Description:
Nørding Hunter Blend Labrador Pipe Tobacco A classic blend of mild, fragrant Black Cavendish, mild Burley and Virginia, enriched with a light cream / caramel note. It is gentle and satisfying.
Characterisation:
When opening the tin you immediately discover a spotty and wavy wrapper. Among them are finer, but also coarser, broad-cut tobacco fibers, but they do not look too wet. The predominant color of the Seaweed is a rich medium brown, under which also lighter and darker parts mix. The fragrance is less reminiscent of cream caramel, its sweetness is more likely to evoke fruit associations, as is the case with some Virginias. Although the tobacco does not seem too damp between the fingers, but in mind of the cover sheet you should let the portion for plugging dry briefly, before you bring it into the pipe.
Plugging:
Although the cut of the Seaweed is not completely uniform, the tobacco can be quite easily plugged using the usual method for loose Mixtures. Starting loosely down and getting tighter towards the top, you reach a filling that does not cause any problems in the burning.
Light up:
Like the plugging, the lighting of the Seaweed is rather easy. Once the surface is evenly lit, you can use the tamper again to flatten the ember bed. A second flame is then only for safety and is almost not necessary to ensure a uniform burning.
Smoking properties:
You can tell immediately the Seaweed is rather lightly flavored. It shows a pleasant mildness, which can be thought of as a cream caramel, but at the same time it is not too weak. There are quite smoky and spicy flavors to taste, which can be traced back to the used basic tobaccos. Also, the Burley is perceived as a nutty component, which harmonizes beautifully with the fruity-sweet aroma, which is not so much due to an addition. The burning is calm and up to the last third accompanied by the mildness and sweetness, until the tobacco spice penetrates more clearly. What remains is a slightly coarser, light ash and some condensate, which, however, is clearly limited for a flavored tobacco.
Redolency:
The smoke of the Seaweed is rather for tobacco, but slightly sweet, so it is incumbent upon the society whether the tobacco is tolerated.
Conclusion:
The Seaweed is a predominantly medium brown Mixture with a fruity-sweet scent, which is also found in the smoke. You should not expect a sticky cream caramel taste, because the tobacco is mild and sweet, but the subtle flavor used leaves the basic tobacco room enough to unfold. While the Virginias are quite spicy and even smoky, the nutty Burley produces a nice combination of natural flavors with the added casing. If you do not expect a sugar factory, you will find in the Seaweed a lightly flavored and at the same time naturally spicy tobacco for every occasion.
