Manufacturer Description:
A fairly pale, pure Virginia blend, pressed in parts and stored to age, then picked and smoked. This smooth, sweet tobacco does not contain any added flavor and still offers a truly genuine "Danish pleasure" with a rich aroma.
Characterisation:
When you open the tin, the sweet raisin scent of Copenhagen hits your nose, as is typical for some Virginias. The cover sheet is a bit crushed when you open the paper rosette. It's not soggy though, because the tobacco underneath isn't too moist, but it's not too dry either. The Ready Rubbed is so carefully ground that only a few light and medium brown marbled pieces remain. The majority are medium brown and lighter curly fibers.
Plugging:
The finely ground Copenhagen Ready Rubbed can be plugged almost like a loose cut. If you bring it into the pipe with just a little pressure and only end it a little tighter at the top, you will achieve a good burning.
Light up:
The humidity of the Copenhagen is just right to ensure an easy light up. Since the Ready Rubbed rises a little, you should smooth it out a bit with the tamper and then use a second flame to ensure an even glow.
Smoking properties:
Contrary to what its name might suggest, Copenhagen is not a typical Danish tobacco because it lacks flavoring. But it is mild. For a pure Virginia, the tobacco smokes very cool, with an almost creamy smoke. Typical of Virginias, on the other hand, is the slightly spicy roasted aroma, reminiscent of dark bread. In addition, there is the sweetness already perceived in the cold scent and a mild lemony acidity in the background. In the second half of the smoke, the spicy notes become more evident, but never overpowering. The burn is quiet and you rarely have to re-ignite. This does not detract from the taste. The remaining medium-grey ash and the little condensate make cleaning just as uncomplicated as the course of the smoke.
Redolency:
The smoke of the Copenhagen is not overpowering, so it will not meet with spontaneous reluctance. However, since it is genuine tobacco, non-smokers should be considered.
Conclusion:
The Copenhagen is a light Ready Rubbed that has been ground almost too finely, making it very easy to be given into the pipe, lighted and kept on fire. It hardly challenges in the taste either, but offers an uncomplicated, round impression of dark roasted bread, sweetness and a hint of citrus. Unlike many other Virginia tobaccos, the tobacco makes no demands on smoking habits. So it is suitable for every day as well as especially for beginners who have not yet had any experience with Virginia tobaccos, their taste advantages and peculiarities.
