Manufacturer Description:
The Peterson Cask Aged Virginia Mixture consists of a selection of aged Virginia tobaccos complemented with a touch of Black Cavendish. The tobacco blend has matured in old oak barrels for at least 3 years. Rum is added to the Cask Aged Virginia Mixture - which comes from the Braunstein distillery in Denmark, whose exclusive spirits have already won several awards.
Characterisation:
If you open the round tin of the Cask Aged Virginia Mixture and unfold the paper rosette, you can see the cardboard cover. This is decorated with a strikingly pretty illustration of a tobacco plant. This beautiful image is supported by the absolutely dry cardboard. A positive impression that is not marred by any moisture affecting the cardboard. As soon as you open it, an appetizing scent of rum raisins hits your nose, not pungent with alcohol, but fresh and sweet. The Cask Aged Virginia Mixture is very evenly composed of light, medium and black brown tobaccos. The cut is frizzy, rather short and interspersed with occasional narrow Ready Rubbed. As the dry wrapper suggests, the tobacco is in ideal condition to be plugged immediately out of the tin.
Plugging:
Due to the short cut of the Cask Aged Virginia Mixture and the fine Ready Rubbed pieces, the mixture can be plugged loosely at the bottom and gently firmer towards the top using the usual method. Out of consideration for the ready rubbed, the pipe should not be overfilled so that the compressed tobacco has room to develop.
Light up:
The Cask Aged Virginia Mixture can be ignited with two to three flames. To do this, after the first fire, gently smooth the surface with the tamper and then create an even ember.
Smoking properties:
The Cask Aged Virginia Mixture is not a typical aromatic. The aroma is skilfully used in the background and, like the soft Cavendish, serves to round off the overall impression. Superficially, but again not obtrusively, the Virginia is to be tasted. Soft bread notes with a hint of roasted aromas are evident here. The impression of a finely spicy sweetness is predominant, which actually reminds a little of the rum raisins you have already sniffed and lasts throughout the course of the smoke. The burn is also relaxed thanks to the uncomplicated tobacco. In the end, only some medium-grey, fine ash and hardly any condensate remain, which makes cleaning very easy.
Redolency:
The Cask Aged Virginia Mixture is slightly sweet in the room, but you should be considerate of non-smoking company or enjoy the tobacco with like-minded people.
Conclusion:
The Cask Aged Virginia Mixture, evenly composed of tobaccos in all shades of brown, exudes an unobtrusive aroma of rum raisins even when cold. This also harmonizes with the soft toasted bread notes of the Virginia and contributes a fine sweetness to the Cavendish. The taste profile is therefore round and harmonious. The burning of the Cask Aged Virginia Mixture is uncomplicated in terms of aroma, strength and course of smoke. Ideal for being able to smoke the tobacco on the side. Anyone looking for an uncomplicated and slightly flavored tobacco for every occasion will certainly not be disappointed with the Cask Aged Virginia Mixture.
