Manufacturer Description:
One of the oldest forms of pipe tobacco meets a new combination of tobaccos. Whole tobacco leaves and only natural raw materials are used to wrap the roll cakes. They consist of 100% pure Virginia tobaccos for the winder and Virginia and Burley as fillers. Maple sugar, water and vanilla are also added to create the new unique taste. After the tobacco has been spun into long strands, it is stored for several weeks and cut into thin roll cakes before final production. The slices are placed on top of each other, held and folded in the middle in order to plug them into the pipe with light pressure.
Characterisation:
The Classic Roll Cake comes in a round tin. Wrapped in a paper rosette, coin-shaped tobacco discs are hidden under the cover sheet. These are evenly marbled dark and medium brown and streaked with lots of golden sprinkles. The scent is less reminiscent of "typical" vanilla tobacco than of sweet fruit bread and spicy port wine. Despite the pressed tobacco, the Classic Roll Cake contains hardly any residual moisture and can be plugged immediately. When storing, you should take this into account and, if necessary, transfer the Classic Roll Cake into an even more airtight container.
Plugging:
Due to their rather dry consistency, the curlies of the Classic Roll Cake can easily be broken up a little before they are given into the pipe. As long as you don't choose a pipe bowl that is too small, it doesn't take much attention to achieve a good filling.
Light up:
The Classic Roll Cake also makes it easy here. The first flame almost seems like enough. Just to be on the safe side, smooth the surface slightly with the tamper and give fire again.
Smoking properties:
For a flavored tobacco, the Classic Roll Cake is surprisingly spicy. It is reminiscent of herbs. Woody tones and even leather can also be detected. The balanced composition is reflected in the rounding off sweetness of the aroma. However, this is designed and dosed in such a way that it extends mildly throughout the entire smoke process and complements the smoky natural tones with hints of spicy dried fruit and roasted honey cake. The pleasant smoking experience is supported by completely uncomplicated smoking behavior. The small amount of medium gray ash left behind and hardly any condensate make cleaning just as effortless.
Redolency:
The aroma of the Classic Roll Cake creates a scent in the room that is reminiscent of a kitchen where cookies are being baked. This can also have a pleasant effect on non-smokers.
Conclusion:
The Classic Roll Cake is a flavored blend that should not be confused with one of those vanilla tobaccos from the gas station. The old-fashioned, charming curlies are dark-toned, cleanly cut and their sweet-spicy scent already reveals that no chemical aroma is to be expected here. The taste of herbs, leather and wood makes you think of good cigars some times. Even smokers of natural blends can become weak here. The aroma seems natural and is used so cleverly that it rounds off the already pleasant smoke with the mild sweetness of honey cake and dried fruit. And as if that wasn't enough, the Classic Roll Cake, with its completely uncomplicated preparation and smoke process, offers an example of a tobacco that one would like to call almost perfect.
