Manufacturer Description:
Plumcake brings back memories of the old days when sailors on their sailing ships stuffed a pipe with a good tobacco and enjoyed the smell of nicotine and salt water. Light Virginia tobaccos blended with Burley, a serving of Mac Baren Cavendish and a hint of Syrian Latakia. Its rounding gets this masterful blend finally by the addition of original Jamaican rum. This blend is rich and full-bodied with hints of natural sweetness, complemented by light Latakia taste and incomparable aroma of rum.

Characterisation:
The Plum Cake Navy Blend is a rather fine loose cut of generally medium brown color with an equal number of dark and light portions. The aroma is slightly alcoholic, but not necessarily remembering rum. In this dull sweetish, like plums and preserved fruits. Mac Baren presses its tobaccos usually tight into the tin, including the Plum Cake Navy Blend, which looks "sticky" because of that, but its moisture is just right and the tobacco not gooey.

Plugging:
Since the Plum Cake Navy Blend rises under the flame, you should give it neither too tight nor too high into the pipe. “Plugging” is in this tobacco even more than with other tobaccos, not to be taken literally, but means well-dosed pressure.

Light up:
The Plum Cake Navy Blend erects under the first flame, so you have to use the tamper to subdue it gently back into the pipe and then ignite it evenly with a second flame. Then there are no more problems.

Smoking  properties:
The Plum Cake Navy Blend recalls in smoke less to a plum cake, are its flavors but less sour than spicy. In fact, the bread aromas are reminiscent of the sweet-spicy aroma of plums in alcohol and carnations to an English plum pudding. Below the tart earthy basic tobaccos are to guess. These are getting more evident in the foreground towards the end of the filling. The Latakia is not significantly to taste and is probably only the spicy rounding. For an even burn you should use the tamper from time to time and bring the tobacco closer to the embers. Also you should not be too greedy, because then the tobacco tends to heat up and gargles. But the cleaning is made easy, since only very bright, fine ash and only some condensate remains.

Redolency:
The room touch of Plumcake Navy Blend is sweet and reminds Non smoking to "typical whistling fragrance", which is why it should not be bothersome in society.

Conclusion:
The Plum Cake Navy Blend is a medium brown Loose Cut, which has exactly the right humidity to be filled immediately. With a little attention here, as with the following smoking the tobacco has the same flavor that already flows from the tin: a spicy-alcoholic plum-sweetness, reminiscent less of the eponymous cake than to the english plumpudding. The casing used not glossed over the harsher basic tobaccos, but balances this to a round flavor profile. Nor sensitive natures have to fear of being overwhelmed by the Latakia; it is in this mix only as a condiment far in the background. A little experience provided the Plum Cake Navy Blend makes so little difficulty and is therefore a classic from the house of Mac Baren, which each pipe smoker should have tried.

I would say, a typical MacBaren tobacco blend ... often in a can too moist, very fine aroma when the can is opened, loose cut and nicely carp blends with different types of tobacco. Its name is PLUMCAKE, but the plums are somewhere far away in the background. More dominated by virginia with its earthy, woody and citrus aromas, latakia is barely noticeable, while Burley and Cavadish carry the aroma of navy rum. The whole mixture is very well composed, but ... it is not easy to smoke! If it is not smoked dried and only at a slightly faster rate, it will bite like a crazy dog! In addition to burning your mouth and tongue, it will create excess moisture and the pipe will start gargling. I would not suggest this tobacco to new pipe smokers, as even experienced ones sometimes suffer from this mixture. Room note is pleasant, strength is medium to strong, nicotine shot is medium strength. You could smoke all day, but only if you are an experienced pipe smoker and not a nicotine addict.
