Characterisation:
The Red Blend 51 is a loose blend of broader tobacco fibers that are predominantly medium and light brown, but mixes well with a good proportion of darker cuts. The rising fragrance from the tin reveals the Latakia, as it reminds of the tart and sweet smokiness of burning, damp autumn leaves. Between the fingers, the tobacco feels barely moist, so that it could be at least briefly pre-dried, before giving it in the pipe, but this is not absolutely necessary.
Plugging:
As a Loose Cut you can plug the Red Blend 51 as usual. If you start down a bit more loosely and become firmer towards the top, you will get a filling that does not cause any problems while burning.
Light up:
Even the lighting of the Red Blend 51 is quite unpretentious. After the first flame, gently squeeze the filling again with the tamper and give fire again evenly. The resulting embers then will last until the end of the filling.
Smoking properties:
The Latakia clearly dominates in the smoke of the Red Blend 51. Its smoky spiciness is clearly perceptible, while the Kentucky – unusual for an English mixture – additionally contributes a "pinch of pepper". The whole thing is held together by the mild, slightly hayed Virginia and the finely sweet Cavendish, which round off the whole. The smoke is rather strong, but not overwhelmingly strong, if you like Latakia mixtures. The cool and quiet burning behavior helps to enjoy the tobacco relaxed. As the tobacco does not tend to gargle, in the end there is only some medium gray ash and almost no condensate in the pipe. This makes cleaning as uncomplicated as the course of the smoke.
Redolency:
By using Latakia, with its usual side effects, the Red Blend 51 is not suitable for non-smoking society. In the fresh air or among like-minded people, however, the tobacco looks good.
Conclusion:
The Red Blend 51 is a blend whose appearance, as well as the fragrance reveals the contained Latakia. The dark tobacco also plays an important role in the smoke, but is not quite as present as in more typical English mixtures. Nevertheless, the Red Blend 51 shows smoky and spicy, which also contributes to the Kentucky. Virginia and Cavendish provide with their mildness for a round overall impression. Although the tobacco is a bit stronger, but may also beginners approach it. Especially as the Red Blend 51 is easy to prepare and to smoke. So the tobacco is suitable for lovers of strong English mixtures for every occasion, but also for cozy smoke to a good drink.
