Characterisation: The Stirling Flake was cut in clean, fairly narrow slices and carefully stacked into the box. The tobacco is dark brown almost black with a few lighter sprinklings. The open box gives off a pleasant scent of tart licorice and anise. The flake is slightly brittle, but has enough moisture not to disintegrate and can be placed in the pipe without further preparation.
Plugging: The fine workmanship and the optimal humidity of the Flake makes it easy to smoke. Whether it is bent and folded or rubbed and stuffed as a Mixture, remains a matter of personal taste. Both is possible. If you choose a standard or rather small head for this strong flake, is also a matter of taste, but you should pay attention to plug not too tight, otherwise it tends to gargling or even goes out. Leftover tobacco crumbs on top added to the filling are recommended to facilitate the kindling.
Light up: Due its perfectly conditioned moisture the Stirling Flake can be lighted up easily. Maybe you can once more smoothen the surface with the tamper and then relight, then the Stirling Flake burns steadily and placid up to the end.
Smoking properties: The Stirling Flake looks simple in the beginning. Only strong. But you should not be blinded by its strength, but smoke it accordingly slow. Otherwise it begins to gargle and also the tongue suffers. If it gets the attention needed, it smokes pretty cool and you can get a taste behind the dominant herb, spicy Kentucky: earthy flavors, a hint of leather, reminiscent of good cigars, and a shade of creamy sweetness. Overall, the Stirling Flake presents despite its massive strength as full-bodied and balanced, if you know it to take. If you have smoked it with attention to the end, only dark gray ash with some unburned residues left over and also the cleaning effort is kept within limits.
Redolency: The room note of Stirling Flake is characterized due to the strong Kentucky tart tobacco flavor and therefore rarely welcome in a non-smoking society. But among lovers of natural tobaccos no problems should occur. Its spicy flavor also not loses in fresh air and makes the Stirling Flake as a good companion on the way.
Conclusion: The Stirling Flake is a dark brown Flake, accurately cut and packed. Its scent of anise and licorice is pleasant and because of its brittle, but not too moist structure, it is easily plugable. If this is done with care, it causes few problems in the pipe. But it tolerates a possible reigniting, too. Due to its fairly uncompromising strength small heads and attentive smoking are recommended, because it is one-dimensional and fierce otherwise. But then it convinces with true tobacco flavor without frills: tart Kentucky, sweet and fragrant Virginia, leather and earth ... Like the Stirling engine delivers the Stirling Flake massive force and full smoke - an experience for practised smokers who appreciate uncompromising tobaccos.
