Manufacturer Description:
This original tobacco recipe epitomises the traditional English tobacco. Blended dark and bright Virginias, together with Latakia and Turkish leaf result in a perfect, medium-bodied product which gives a rich, slow burning smoke.
Characterisation:
The Squadron Leader is a mix of bright and dark Virginias, medium brown Turkish Orient and almost black Latakia. The different types of tobacco are rather small and short cut, thus resulting in a good pluggable Mixture. By opening the tin one will immediately notice the intensive but not obtrusive smell of the Orient and the Latakia, which displace any other tobacco smell. The mixture is well balanced, supple and optimal conditioned.
Plugging:
The Squadron Leader could be plugged easily by the smoker’s preferred method for mixtures.
Light up:
The Squadron Leader could be light up easily with 1-2 flames. Depending on the strength of the plugging, it tends to straighten up, but can by slightly depressing with the tamper very quickly be subdued.
Smoking properties:
The handling and smoking properties of the Squadron Leader are simple and good-natured. The rather short cut of the tobacco is compact and glows evenly and slowly without too much heat and condensate. After lighting up one notices immediately the clear English character: Latakia and Oriental develop its typical taste. But the taste is rather mild by the Virginia, while the strength of tobacco should be classified as a medium. The tobacco glow to the end with a constant taste and leaves a fine medium grey ash.
Redolency:
The redolence of the Squadron Leader is also clearly dominated by the spicy Latakia and Orient. For lovers of English Latakia blends the tobacco develops an interesting but intense redolence. The tobacco is therefore only suitable for societies, where friends of English blends gathered...
Conclusion:
The Squadron Leader is a colourful blend of Virginias, Turkish Orient and Latakia with the intense smell of an English Mixture. By a rather fine and short cut the handling is easy and burning down good-natured. The tobacco doesn’t tend to overheat and develops only less condensate. Taste and redolence are dominated by the Orient and Latakia, what restricts the society acceptance. Despite the medium strength the Squadron Leader is suited for beginners in the world of English tobaccos just as for lovers of its taste. For the latter, it’s quite recommended as an “all-day's" tobacco.
