Manufacturer Description:
This pleasant blend consists largely of Virginia tobacco that has matured for at least three years. Enriched with oriental tobaccos, the ultimate in smoking pleasure.
Characterisation:
The Heritage 5 Year Matured Virginia is a dark and medium brown Loose Cut that is slightly wider and longer cut, with a few pieces of Ready Rubbed and firmer leaf components between it. The smell of nuts and raisins is reminiscent of trail mix, but mixed with a smoky chocolate bouquet which reveals the contained Oriental tobacco. The tobacco is not overly humid, but before plugging it should be pre-dried for better burning.
Plugging:
The Heritage 5 Year Matured Virginia can be plugged like a standard loose Mixure despite the occasional coarse ingredient. So you get a good burn by starting loosely down and ending up with gentle pressure.
Light up:
Due to the residual moisture of the tobacco, the fibers straighten slightly under the first flame. If you smooth it gently with the tamper, you will reach with the second, possibly with the third flame a very even ember.
Smoking properties:
The Heritage 5 Year Matured Virginia is rather cool and smoky, as one would expect from a tobacco containing Orient; but also spicy with a pinch of pepper, which is probably more attributable to the mature Virginia. Both tobaccos pair in a very harmonious connection. In the background you can always taste the incense of the Oriental, while in the foreground roast aromas, rye bread and nut mix with hints of leather. The burning is strikingly calm, only the spice is towards the end a bit stronger, but not intrusive. Fine, rather light ash is all that remains in the pipe when it goes out.
Redolency:
The room note of the Heritage 5 Year Matured Virginia is for tobacco and reveals quite well the included Oriental tobacco, so that it already requires very tolerant society if you do not prefer to smoke alone.
Conclusion:
As a Loose Cut with only a few irregularities, the medium and light brown Heritage 5 Year Matured Virginia can still quite easily be plugged and lighted. Its moderate strength too makes it not difficult for the smoker to taste the very harmonious taste. Thus, the used Oriental keeps the smoke cool, while the spicy Virginia nutty notes and roasted aromas contributes, then again the basic theme appears to be smoky sometimes peppery or leather so that no boredom arises despite all the balance. Thus, for every lover of English mixtures recommended and even for ambitious beginners quite suitable.
