Manufacturer Description:
As the name denotes, this is a mixture of mostly Turkish, Syrian and Cypriote – East Mediterranean too – bright tobaccos. It originally contented meanly tobaccos from the Orient and was produced the first time at the beginning of 1800, it’s one of the earliest mixtures of Robert McConnell. Combined from selected, small leaves from Carolina and Red Old Belt from Virginia. This first mixture rested one week, so that the aromas could merge. Than Black Cavendish was added and the whole mixture bulk stored since it was needed. The complex mixture – the effort, which is necessary to produce this tobacco, has an affect on smoking. Colour: Black, Red, Gold, Brown; Strength: Medium/strong
Characterisation:
The Oriental is a mixture of bright and dark tobaccos in a beautiful contrast. Medium cut and in good condition. While opening the tin a spicy smell of tobacco with a definite part of Latakia spread out, which goes along with a sweetly note.
Plugging:
This tobacco could be plugged uncomplicate as any medium cut mixture, but in due of the rather short tobacco streaks, it should not be pressed too much.
Light up:
Lighting up is without any problems too. The tobacco rather tends to straighten oneself and with one or two flames it’s glowing constantly.
Smoking properties:
The Oriental shows a definitely English character. Spicy tobacco with a good portion of Latakia result in a strong taste, which is rounded by a fine sweetness. Due to the rather fine cut the tobacco tends a little bit to get hot, whereas the temperature could be regulated good by a controlled smoking. Burning down is constant and with less condensate. At the end a fine, bright ash remains.
Redolency:
The redolence is very spicy too and affected by Latakia. The English character is a little bit softened by Virginia and Black Cavendish. Nevertheless the Oriental is only dedicated for societies who’ll like the smell of a spicy, English tobacco.
Conclusion:
A medium to strong, tasty tobacco with English character. Affected by Latakia, but both taste and redolence have sweetly nuances from Virginia and Black Cavendish. The Oriental shows good burning properties, whereas a little bit attention to the temperature is necessary. Recommended for enthusiasts of English mixtures, for beginners rather too challenging.
