Characterisation:
The English Mixture is a Crimp Cut, which means a crimped shorter Loose Cut. The tobacco predominantly shows light to medium brown, but also some almost black parts. From the tin, the English Mixture smells surprisingly fruity and sweet for an "English" tobacco, the expected smoke aromas are rather light, resulting in an association with a cellar filled with fruits for winter. The cover sheet on the tobacco is wavy and suggests some moisture. In fact, the tobacco is somewhat pappy, but it is easy to dissolve and does not need to be dried for a long time.
Plugging:
The English Mixture should be filled easily into the pipe, then again gentle pressure from above and you can use the matches.
Light up:
The English Mixture burns, despite its apparent moisture, after only one flame and does not necessarily need to be tamped again. This makes more problems than benefits.
Smoking properties:
The English Mixture instantly penetrates the nose and tickles it with its peppery note - immediately it is clear that it is not a beginner's treat. The smoke is pleasantly lush, but strong (also in the nicotine content) and characterized by tart, spicy aromas. Roasted notes are rather discreetly represented and the Latakia accustomed ethereal incense can only be found if you smoke consciously cool and towards the end of the filling. Otherwise, tannin aromas such as strong black tea (quite suitable for an "Englishman") and leather dominate. If you want to plug again, you should do this sensitively, since the tobacco tends to gargle. If you get the hang of it, the English Mixture burns down to a powdery, almost white ash and leaves hardly any condensation in the pipe, so the cleaning effort is also relaxed.
Redolency:
The English Mixture is a very strong English tobacco and is reasonably non-smoking, which is why you should smoke the English Mixture mainly in the fresh air or under similar "gentlemen".
Conclusion:
The English Mixture is a predominantly brown crimp cut, which also hides its English character in the rather sweet-fruity scent. However, as soon as it burns (the preparations does not require much attention), it is clear that the English Mixture is even one of the strong representatives of the latakia-containing tobaccos. The lush smoke tingles in the nose; and on the tongue and palate dominate sour and bitter aromas of tea and leather, while the incense notes of the Latakia are in the background. Since the plugging in between also requires some experience, the English Mixture is not suitable for beginners. The English Mixture is a good choice for those who are looking for a strong but not quite everyday tobacco with Latakia.
