Henry Clay
Henry Clay is the name of a once highly significant cigar brand with a long and successful history that has endured through the years to the present day. Its origins date back to 1840 in Cuba.
But who was Henry Clay? Henry Clay was an American politician, a member of the House of Representatives, a senator, and Secretary of State. He lived from 1777 to 1852. A lawyer by profession, he quickly gained a reputation as a brilliant orator and mediator.

But what connects one of the most influential American politicians of his time with an originally Cuban cigar brand? It was Juan Antonio Bances, one of the brand’s founders, who—through an intermediary—approached the world-renowned Henry Clay to ask for permission to name a cigar brand after him. At Bances' side was Julián Álvarez Granda. Both men were considered leading figures in Cuba’s tobacco industry at the time. Their passion for tobacco and commitment to the highest quality were the driving forces behind their success.

From the very beginning, Henry Clay cigars were sought after for precisely these qualities. After many years under the stewardship of Granda and Bances, the brand eventually passed into British and later American ownership. Then, following the Cuban Revolution, the brand faded into obscurity.

However, in the 1980s, under the leadership of its new owner, Altadis Consolidated Cigar, Henry Clay was revived and expanded with new lines. In March 2019, the Henry Clay War Hawk was introduced in the U.S. for the first time. Until 2024, the brand was sold exclusively in the United States. It wasn't until mid-2024, with its introduction in Spain, that the international expansion of this legendary brand began.

Handcrafted at the La Flor de Copán factory in Honduras, Henry Clay cigars of the Línea War Hawk offer a complex blend of unique, intensely roasted, and woody aromas with a pleasantly balanced spiciness. To achieve these distinctive nuances, the Grupo de Maestros (Master Blenders) developed a special fermentation process that gives these cigars an extra touch—enhancing their harmonious spice and pronounced complexity.

Tabacalera S.A., the world market leader in handmade premium cigars, and 5THAvenue Products Trading-GmbH, Germany's leading premium cigar distributor, are introducing Henry Clay, a brand with a long and eventful history, to the German market. The brand was originally founded in Cuba in the mid-19th century and was named in honor of the legendary U.S. senator, great orator, and popular 19th-century figure, Henry Clay.

Handcrafted at the La Flor de Copán factory in Honduras, Henry Clay cigars of the Línea War Hawk offer a complex blend of unique, intensely roasted, and woody aromas with a pleasantly balanced spiciness. To achieve these distinctive nuances, the Grupo de Maestros (Master Blenders) have developed a special fermentation process that gives these cigars an extra touch—enhancing their harmonious spice and pronounced complexity. The filler consists of Honduran Criollo 98, wrapped in a Broadleaf binder from Honduras and a Connecticut wrapper from Ecuador.

Taste: Roasted, woody, with notes of sweet walnut, smoked cedar, coconut, cinnamon, and pepper.
